Alternative lyrics to the refrain
editThe version I know goes "The rising of the sun and the running of the deer, All merry folk arise and sing to greet the dawning year". Shall I put that in there? 67.162.126.159 03:33, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Growing up in Catholic school, I learned "O, the rising of the sun and the running of the deer, the playing of the merry harp, sweet singing in the choir," which fits the music much better than the two-syllable word, 'organ'. I have found such version online but can't find any origin information on this lyric. Would love additional info. Caira Milanne (talk) 03:49, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
The Woman in White
editThis is also a song in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Woman in White. It has the same lyrics but in a different order and different music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.185.188 (talk) 23:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Article Review
editThis article does a great job of using reliable resources and correctly citing them. The sources vary in historical facts and the article presents information without bias. I would suggest updating the recorded list. While it is clearly marked as partial, the last listed recording was in 2014 which is outdated. Keeping that in mind, it might be significant to include a section or way to indicate popular recordings that are influential to the song's history and continuing relevance, as it is still sung and performed today.
