Air Florida crash call
editWhile the Wikipedia article says https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Florida_Flight_90#Responses_in_the_news_media Washington DC Radio DC101 Rock Jock Howard Stern called the Air Florida ticket counter the day after the accident, on-air, asking about tickets to the 14th Street Bridge.[citation needed] "Stern called air florida" and
the Washington Post said he called Air florida https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/tv/features/shockjocks0227.htm
"The morning after an Air Florida jet crashed into the Potomac River in 1982, killing 78 people, radio shock jock Howard Stern – then with DC-101 – called the airline and inquired about the price of a one-way ticket from National Airport to the 14th Street Bridge."
This article says https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Howard_Stern_Show#1981%E2%80%931985:_Washington_and_WNBC "n January 14, one day after the crash of Air Florida Flight 90, Stern made listeners believe he asked Air Florida the price of a one-way ticket to the 14th Street Bridge, the location of the disaster. "Is that going to be a permanent stop?" asked Stern.[21]"
Inside Radio, says
http://www.insideradio.com/free/stern-on-stern-i-had-a-lot-of-rage-and/article_13263a96-656a-11e8-93d6-8f4a0c7ff8b0.html "The comment that brought Howard Stern his most notoriety during his time on Washington, DC radio in the early ‘80s was the infamous Fourteenth Street Bridge Incident. As morning man at “DC101” WWDC, Stern was reacting to the Air Florida flight that crashed into the bridge in February 1982. "What's the price of a one-way ticket from National to the Fourteenth Street Bridge?” he asked. “Is that going to be a regular stop?”
While it was a make believe call – Stern never actually phoned the airline – the riff became legendary. "
perhaps the Howard stern article should list this as a story wrapped in legend?
