While reading the German translation of The Ivy Tree, I decided to compare a few passages that I hadn't remembered from the original version. The only copy I had at the time was the reprint by Crest Book Publisher. It is greatly condensed and left out everything about the big fight between Annabel and Connor that had led to her departure 8 years before, including the "fact" that she had been pregnant. Thus the decisions of how to handle the story of the fight and the pregnancy were left out, too. The preparations of Mary for impersonating Annabel were also truncated.
I'm sure I'll find more truncations as I continue reading.
So how is one to know if they have the complete English novel and not an abridged version? There is no mention in the Crest Book's credits page that it is abridged. And surely the German translator didn't add to the work.
I feel like this Wikipedia page should address these different editions. Zcynthia (talk) 14:51, 17 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
