300 versions?

"In 1999, TDI sold 300 versions of the Millennium Booster..."

Did "The Keep" actually come out in America in 1983?

Can anyone shed some light on this? At the time of the "Sorceror" soundtrack in 1977, Tangerine Dream had signed a contract with MCA in America - the label that "Sorceror" appeared on. At the time of "The Keep" in 1983, some kind of deal was done with Virgin, whereby Virgin would be able to release "The Keep", if MCA were able to release some other Virgin Tangerine Dream recordings in the U.S. However, due to what Edgar Froese later called "internal politics", the deal fell through, THOUGH NOT BEFORE COPIES OF "THE KEEP" HAD ACTUALLY APPEARED IN AMERICAN RECORD STORES AND BEEN PULLED FROM THE SHELVES LATER THE SAME DAY. Rumours persist that this happened and they won't go away in spite of various official denials. The inlays of the 300 copies of the "TDI Music Special Edition" sold at gigs in 1997 state "This soundtrack is the first and only authorized release of the complete music material from the movie." This may simply be a condemnation of the umpteen bootlegs going around, but many official albums also appear in bootleg versions, with no inlay note being printed on the official release to tell people that this is an official item and to warn them to steer clear of the bootlegs, and so this particular statement really makes very little sense unless it's the existence of something else altogether that is being denied, like a prior official release that actually made it into the shops. Of course, if someone was to produce a bona fide copy of the 1983 record and it was certified genuine, that would remove all doubt (and I wonder what such an item would be worth?) but in its absence the rumours just keep sticking around. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonythepixel (talk • contribs)

Sure. Where did you get the info about MCA- this is the first I had heard they were involved. The previous soundtrack was Thief released on Virgin. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 21:18, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

• Details are sketchy but in the deal I mentioned above, the intention seems to have been for Virgin to release "The Keep" on the condition that MCA had access to Virgin-owned Tangerine Dream recordings in America. This suggests that Tangerine Dream were contracted to MCA for "The Keep" as they had been for "Sorceror" six years earlier. If I can find the source of this information I will let you know straight away.
