So, folks, as it turns out, the novel has never been translated into English, therefore the article title should be chosen by the editors. Let's have so kind of vote, maybe? We can revert the title back to A Guy from Purgatory, we can leave it as it is (The Kid from Hell), or, if you have any better suggestions, just toss them in. As for me, since the current title is just as official as the one proposed by me (that is, the former one), I vote for A Guy from Purgatory. --Koveras 15:29, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
- Novel have been translated into English as The Kid from Hell. First in the US, in the Macmillan's Escape Attempt book, 1982, full content of the book see here. So, I vote for The Kid from Hell. NERV 08:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
- Still authors' site claims "The Youth from the Underworld" title at http://www.rusf.ru/abs/english/e-bibl01.htm And also should wikipedia lean to correct translation, preserving sense and flavour of original title, or to some title used in some published translation (and they may be different and of varying quality)? For example i wholeheartedly agree that Hell is not Purgatory, yet i also strongly feel that Guy/Fellow is not Kid and that Hell looks somewhat too ubiquitous word here.85.90.120.180 (talk) 10:52, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
- I can testify, because I was just able to buy the book. As NERV says, the "Escape Attempt" book contains "Escape Attempt", "Space Mowgli", and "The Kid from Hell". Staecker 19:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
- I think that settles the matter, then. :) --Koveras 22:35, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
- The English title is still imprecise; it sounds more pedestrian than the Russian one. Russian paren is closer to guy than to kid: kid has connotations of immature or child while paren just means young adult. Also, hell is lower style than preispodniaia. hell relates closer to Russian ad. purgatory does not work either, the suffering in purgatory is supposed to be temporary until the sins are atoned. I would suggest A Guy from Inferno. -- Mikhail23 Jul 5, 2007
- This book was officially translated and published in English, and the title is "The Kid from Hell". Using a different title would violate WP:OR. Staecker 14:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
- I do not suggest to officially use a new title. I just commented on how the title got corrupted in translation. Kind of like Alice in Wonderland was translated into Russian as The Adventures of Alice in the Country of Wonders. -- Mikhail23 Jul 5, 2007
- Good- but WP:OR is still an issue, since there are likely no reputable published sources which discuss the mistranslation. Staecker 15:36, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
