ok, dumb question: the King Sisters were Mormon? also, can anyone help remove the reference sentence added by Wikipedia that needs to be fixed? Thank you. I tried to add factual statements and citations to back them up. August 22, 2009 24.167.105.97 (talk) 23:42, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Girl group?

edit

Do the King Sisters belong in Category:Girl groups?

On the the one hand, the article Girl group opens "A girl group is a popular music act featuring several young female singers who generally harmonise together", and the "History" section includes material on the Boswell Sisters and the Andrews Sisters, describing the latter as having achieved "more record sales, more Billboard hits, more million-sellers, and more movie appearances than any other girl group to date". The King Sisters fit in that paradigm I think.

On the other hand, the second sentence of the lede begins "Girl groups emerged in the late 1950s...". The King Sisters don't fit in that paradigm.

So it appears the article Girl group itself is of two minds, and its not clear to me which meaning of "girl group" is operative. Discuss. Herostratus (talk) 05:18, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I just rewrote the lede of Girl group. As it stands, the article doesn't contradict itself anymore, and the King Sisters are in. Herostratus (talk) 06:08, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

There is a free image (no notice on the advertisement, see similar image here for example) at on page 64 of the Billboard 1943 Music Yearbook that is labeled "King Sisters". Given that there are only four women pictured, I wasn't confident it was the same group, but someone here may find it useful. Thanks, Calliopejen1 (talk) 03:35, 29 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
