The reason why I posted the refs tag on this article, is becuase there seem to be no reliable sources. Under notes, the first two listed are not cited properly. I was unable to find the book or an ISBN number for the work. The third note mentions The Last Valley only once, and says that it was written in 1970, not 1959 like the article states. Do you perhaps know of any other source we can look at, or do you have a hard copy of the book with an ISBN? We also may want to take a look at the plot summary, as it is a bit long, if we do end up verifying the book with useable references... -Pax85 (talk) 21:34, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I do own the hardcopy first edition. Looking through it, I find no ISBN number, but there is a Library of Congress catalog card no. 60-5370. By the way, this is the first American edition- it was first published in England under the title "The Fat Valley," a note which I will also put in the article. The copyright is very clearly 1959 and here is a copy on Amazon where, if you scroll down, you will see the same copyright year. And I see there likewise no ISBN but a ASIN (whatever that is) of B000H572Z4. The 1970 year refers, I believe, to the Mass Market paperback edition. I will also rewrite the references in the correct style- I figured since they all referred to the same book, I could avoid multiple references to the same, but I understand. As for the length, I felt it necessary due to the overall nuances and span of the work- its actually quite brief compared to other summaries of similar works that I have seen. It is longer than the film summary, I know, but that's really comparing apples and oranges since the film combines so many aspects of the plot and eliminates many others that it doesn't need anything longer.MStoke (talk) 21:51, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I did a little more digging, since I don't know anything about ISBN's other than what they are, and discovered that they didn't begin until 1966 which explains, I guess, why this edition doesn't have one. I noticed that other 1959 novels here on Wikipedia just put "NA" in the ISBN section of the infobox which is what I have done. There is one for the 1970 paperback version, but I don't think that one can be used here, can it- maybe with a note explaining that it is for the paperback version? What do you think? I am also looking over the summary to reduce it by half- but I will need a bit of time.MStoke (talk) 23:26, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Publication year

The worldcat edition listing shows the 1960 Boston and Toronto editions explicitly marked as "1st American ed.", so I doubt the current publication date of 1959 in the article. London, 1959 as "The Fat Valley" and Boston and Toronto, 1960 as "The Last Valley" seems the correct publication sequence judging from the source above.
