The so-called classical unities are not found in this play
editFor some reason, someone decided to say that this play observes the "classical unities." It does not. As for unity of action, one must note that the plot structure is deliberately disjointed and fantastical, which is not what Aristotle or his neoclassical misinterpreters regarded as unity of action. Unity of time is also broken; there is a definite lapse of time between acts. Last but not least, unity of place is also broken, as the two acts occur in different places.
It is, furthermore, an utterly unimportant idea. The so-called unities were thrown away well over a century ago and nobody thinks they're important any more.
For these reasons I have removed the statement about the unities. Poihths (talk) 18:59, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
Note
editWhy does this article list so many minor productions? I don't want to anger people by deleting them, but surely all these high school and small college productions of the play are not noteworthy? User:Jwrosenzweig editing as 71.112.35.93 (talk) 04:50, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Agree. Only productions by major theaters should be listed. Sofia Roberts (talk) 17:35, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
