Requested move 16 January 2020
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: No consensus for now. This has become a bit of a mess, as respondents are responding differently to the individual proposals. On the current evidence there is no consensus for the 1st and 2nd moves, and a possible consensus for the 3rd, but I suggest that (or either of the others if appropriate) be posed as a fresh RM on their own, to avoid confusion. — Amakuru (talk) 13:12, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
- The Parasite → The Parasite (novelette)
- The Parasites → The Parasites (novel)
- The Parasite (1925 film) → The Parasite (film)
– Since Parasite / parasite and Parasites / parasites redirect to Parasitism, The Parasite / the parasite and The Parasites / the parasites should also redirect there. If the literary works that bear those titles were renowned classics of world literature, an argument would been made for exceptions, but the works in question are relatively second-tier efforts by their respective authors and, as such, do not appear to merit a base name position [as a point of interest, the hatnote atop The Parasites currently only carries a link to Parasites (band), but not to Parasite (disambiguation)]. As for the 1925 film, although there are two entries at Parasite (disambiguation) for films titled Parasite, there is only one film titled The Parasite. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 19:05, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- If moved the titles with the definite article should redirect to the DAB not the primary topic since the primary topic isn't known with "The" either in the singular or plural. Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:14, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- As nominator, I agree that Crouch, Swale's proposal is more intuitive than the one in the nomination. The Parasite / the parasite and The Parasites / the parasites should indeed redirect to the Parasite (disambiguation) page, rather than to Parasitism. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:12, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose 1st and 2nd, Support 3rd, all per WP:OVERPRECISION. There's no reason to think anyone searching for or linking to "The Parasite" (bothering to type the article and capitalize) actually wants to be at parasitism. The novelette is clearly the primary topic over the film,[2] so should stay where it is. The film should be moved as proposed because there's no other film with the title, so it need not be disambiguated by year. Station1 (talk) 01:44, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support 1st and 3rd, oppose 2nd - no primary between the novelette and film, film disambig is overprecise, and novel plural name is a unique usage. -- Netoholic @ 12:08, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose 1st the only other topic is the 1925 film, and Lucian of Samosata's work. Oppose 2nd no other. Oppose 3rd the 2019 Korean film is incorrectly titled "THE Parasite" in enough English sources. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:13, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
