editThis is a real and notable publication. The issues are bound and shelved in university libraries, as you can see here: https://www.worldcat.org/title/public-a-journal-of-democracy/oclc/1763075
In any case it is not a part of The New Republic, so it should not be merged there. As for secondary sources, Frank Luther Mott writes about The Public in "A History of American Magazines" (Volume 4), on page 62 as I can see from Google Books. The library by me has a copy, but unfortunately it's closed indefinitely due to Covid-19. In the meantime I've requested another book and will update this article if it's allowed to stay up. --Chris1564 (talk) 04:14, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
