When Watson first meets Mycroft in the Diogenes Club, Mycroft mentions a reason for the rule against talking, saying something to the effect of "We wouldn't want a repeat of 1972". Can anyone explain what event in 1972 he refers to? 76.111.65.186 (talk) 12:38, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Watergate maybe? No talking means no recordings of sensitive material.--Ibis3 (talk) 03:09, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Watergate seems doubtful. Besides the fact that it's the wrong country, the Watergate recordings took place in actual government premises, not at an off-duty gathering. I believe it's a Noodle Incident, something which was meant to be as meaningless to us as it was to Watson. None of the major events of 1972 (huge flareup in the Irish Troubles, miners' strike, bribery scandal, etc.) seem like they could have had anything to do with people talking at a gentlemen's club.
Considering Gatiss's involvement, it _could_ be a direct reference to an Avengers episode that made a similar noodle-incident reference to 1972 at a private club, or an inside joke about Doctor Who in-universe (Day of the Daleks?) or out (the "excessive violence" investigation, Pertwee's ridiculous single). But even if so, it's hard to imagine it being verifiable enough, or notable enough, to be included here. --70.36.140.56 (talk) 06:32, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Molly Hooper.
editI clarified just who "Molly" is - Molly Hooper, pathologist, etc. I added a link to her section in the list of characters. Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 03:08, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
