Use of Twitter as a source on this page

edit

The use of Al Jean's Twitter profile as a source on this page is invalid per the website's policy on social media. Per note #2, if the social media excerpts contain information of third-parties, they cannot be used. The show itself, the director(s), guest-star(s), etc. all are third-party involved characters, therefore the inclusion of social media links is inappropriate to the page. livelikemusic my talk page! 19:14, 26 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

That's wrong. If it is the verified Twitter profile of the show's producer then it is a primary source and as good as an interview with him on TV or in newspapers. --84.62.82.217 (talk) 17:16, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Colour contrast problems

edit

It seems that this article is using colours in the infobox which don't satisfy Wikipedia's accessibility guidelines. The contrast between the foreground colour and the background colour is low, which means that it may be difficult or impossible for people with visual impairments to read it.

To correct this problem, a group of editors have decided to remove support for invalid colours from Template:Infobox television season and other television season templates after 1 September 2015. If you would still like to use custom colours for the infobox and episode list in this article after that date, please ensure that the colours meet the WCAG AAA standard.

To test whether a colour combination is AAA-compliant you can use Snook's colour contrast tool. If your background colour is dark, then please test it against a foreground colour of "FFFFFF" (white). If it is light, please test it against a foreground colour of "000000" (black). The tool needs to say "YES" in the box for "WCAG 2 AAA Compliant" when you input the foreground and the background colour. You can generally make your colour compliant by adjusting the "Value (%)" fader in the middle box.

Please be sure to change the invalid colour in every place that it appears, including the infobox, the episode list, and the series overview table. If you have any questions about this, please ask on Template talk:Infobox television season. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:31, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

About the Season 27 Logo (just like Season 26, 25, 24, 23, 22 and 21 logo)

edit

Are you guys going to put the Season 27 logo picture which will have Sideshow Bob on it anytime soon later this month and maybe couple more weeks later? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.26.135.189 (talk) 20:24, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

WP:PARAPHRASE Closely paraphrased episode "summary"

edit

The short summary of episode 3 reads:

Patty and Selma agree to quit smoking after learning their father died of a nicotine addiction. When Selma later has a relapse, Patty decides to move in with the Simpson family.

The official Fox press release reads:

Upon learning that their father really died of lung cancer, Selma and Patty agree to quit smoking. When Selma relapses, an angry Patty moves in with Marge and Homer.

You can clearly see how phrases have been interchanged and singular words have been replaced but it still is the same text. I flagged this as close paraphrasing, which may constitute plagiarism, but my flag has been reverted, claiming The wording is a bit similar, but it's not "plagiarism."

I suggest to remove the paraphrased material and express the contents of the episode solely in own words. –Dark Cocoa Frosting (talk) 22:18, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

The reason I reverted that edit is because at this time we don't know all that much about the episode right now besides the two sentences above. Once the episode airs I'll change it. I actually wrote part of that summary but someone edited my wording so it was closer to the press release summary. Isabelle 22:23, 6 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
It is still plagiarism if it just uses the words from the press release in a different order.
You must use your own (i.e., different) words to express a summary of the content, without using the wording of the press release. Something like: "Patty and Selma make a resolution to cease smoking, but when Patty finds out that her sister went back to cigarettes, she is so upset that she leaves her to live with the Simpsons."–Dark Cocoa Frosting (talk) 16:34, 7 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry if my wording was a bit unclear, what I was trying to get across is that my original summary did use different words, but when I reverted your edit I didn't see that someone else had changed some of my words to make it closer to the press release. Isabelle 22:18, 7 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Unscheduled episodes

edit

Is there a source for that the unschedules episodes listed in the season 27 article will really air in season 27? If not, those episodes belong only in the episodes list. --Morten Haan (talk) 15:42, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

https://simpsonswiki.com/wiki/Season_27 wikisimpsons has all the sources and even more for each ep ;) LetsPlayNintendoITA (talk) 16:14, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Other wikis cannot be used as a source WP:UGC. I've removed the section as most of the twitter citations don't show any supporting evidence of airdates and Treehouse of Horror XXVII won't show until next season. If this one episode is out of season, it's likely that others are as well. Episodes can be added to the episode list when supporting information is found. Ryan8374 (talk) 08:51, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
WP:UGC does say that some Twitter accounts can be used as sources, but many of them cannot. Excerpt taken from the policy:
Self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable...with the exception of material on such sites that is labeled as originating from credentialed members.
Al Jean would be considered a credentialed person, since he is the current showrunner. Also, WP:Twitter states that:
A specific tweet may be useful as a self-published, primary source. Twitter incorporates a Verified Account mechanism to identify accounts of celebrities and other notable people; this should be considered in judging the reliability of Twitter messages.
Al Jean's Twitter account, which is verified, is a reliable source per this page. For this reason, I've re-added all of the episodes and the upcoming episodes without an airdate section. Isabelle 22:09, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I didn't use WP:UGC in reference to twitter. The referenced tweets didn't actually show anything. As I said, there is no reason to list unscheduled episodes when there's no guarantee they will air this season, a la Treehouse of Horror XXVII. That one is NEXT year. Ryan8374 (talk) 02:45, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
My opinion is that it's not necessary to list the unscheduled episodes. I've not seen any other shows that do this. The only episodes that should be listed are those that have an air date. Even though tweets are supported on wikipedia, the tweets in question only have dates. They make no reference to the actual episode in question and are thus invalid. As I previously said above, some of the episodes may not even air this season. Until more information is available, they should not be listed. Ryan8374 (talk) 21:22, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've seen a few other shows list the unscheduled episodes, Family Guy (season 14) being one example. I can't see a harm in leaving them there if they are properly sourced. I think it's reasonable though to leave out Treehouse of Horror XXVII, since we know for sure that one's not airing this season. I did some looking around to see if any other sites list these poorly sourced episodes / air dates, and I did manage to find this source. This site lists all the "unscheduled" episodes and has air dates for 4 more episodes not listed on TV Guide or Zap2it. Do you think this source will work? Isabelle 22:31, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
The amount of information on simpsonsarchive is impressive and while it might be useful for previous seasons, it wouldn't work for the unscheduled episodes. I sent an email to the site's maintainer and he replied back that he uses nohomers.net, a forum that uses the same questionable sources; tweets with supposed answers, but no questions. The air dates for the 4 episodes appear to have come from IMDB, another questionable source. I've spent the last several hours tinkering with the data to see if I could get it into better shape. All it's done is gotten into more of a mess and put my brain into overload. You can have a look at my sandbox and let me know if you think the top table is workable. The main problem I see with it is deciding if we need to reference every piece of information...that's where the brain overload comes in. Ryan8374 (talk) 08:00, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for looking into where Simpsons Archive is getting their info. I contacted the series showrunner, Al Jean, on Twitter and asked if the dates we had for those four episodes were correct. He confirmed that the dates there was correct.
Also, thank you for trying to work with the current data. The table itself looks fine, but like you said I think this is even more extensive than before and it may be hard to find reliable references for all that info. I also added an embedded note to the confirmed plots section so that group of IP's doesn't keep moving it without discussing first. Isabelle 23:15, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting the next 4 episodes. They've been unhidden and the episodes in production have been put back in with a new addition. Citations have also been cleaned up.Ryan8374 (talk) 00:54, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for re-adding those and the chart. I'm confused though about why you added a wiki source for VABF18 since you yourself said Wiki can't be used as a source. I've removed the source and added a citation needed tag, since the script in the source looks official. Isabelle 02:18, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Given that the source is an image, I wasn't going to worry about it. I'm not sure where it actually came from. These are usually posted on twitter or instagram.Ryan8374 (talk) 01:31, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

'Paths or Paths of Glory?

edit

So, I'm a bit confused about which title we should be using in the episode chart. The FOX press release says the title is "Paths of Glory," however, Al Jean, the main showrunner, has said that the correct title is "'Paths of Glory" with the apostrophe. My opinion is that Al Jean's word would trump the FOX press release, since he is the head showrunner (and "'Paths" would generally make more sense as it probably stands for "sociopaths," which is the main plot of the episode), but I wanted to see what others thought since my addition of the Al Jean source has been reverted a few times now. Katniss 14:29, 15 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

On fox.com there's no apostrophe and Jean's tweet is quite old, so I think the title without the apostrophe is the correct one. --Morten Haan (talk) 15:05, 15 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

What happened to the "reception" part of the simpsons season 27 page? why was that removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.83.3.212 (talk) 22:34, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
