Need help / additional references / citations / confirmation

I have attempted to compile a comprehensive discography for the Swingle Singers and posted what I have so far into this Wikipedia article but I have been unable to verify some details for many recordings. The main information still needed is "year of release" and the name of the record company releasing the (original) work. I know "Primarily A Cappella" has re-released many Swingle Singers albums and they may even be the initial release company for many of the later albums – but I have not been able to verify which of those later albums are original Primarily A Cappella releases and which are re-issues of previously released (by others) albums.

I have indicated what information is missing or unverified below with ???????? and I have included album numbers to (possibly?) assist in further research. Of course there may be errors / typos among those numbers as well.

Chronological ordering... I have included release years with the recordings for which I could verify release dates and left the release year blank (and made "best guess" estimates of the approximate original release period) for those albums without verified release dates in the chronological listing below. But it is very possible that the chronological placement for some of the recordings shown below is not correct and will need to be modified as better release date info becomes known (and is properly cited). I am guessing that the album Madrigals you refer to is likely the same (content) as 1974's Love Songs for Madrigals and Madriguys. It is not uncommon for albums to be released under similar (but not identical) titles by different labels (in different countries for example). Pugetbill (talk) 14:55, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

[UPDATE] - Madrigals (CBS 80147) is the title of the album released in the UK, whereas Love Songs for Madrigals and Madriguys (COLUMBIA 33013) is the title of the same album released by Columbia Records in the US. Moved large section from main article to this discussion page

Today, I removed the below list of albums and track listings from the main "The Swingle Singers" wikipedia article as I felt it was too long (and too detailed) for the main article. This info had been added to the main article long before a Swingle Singers discography article had been created. But it now seems (to me anyway) that this kind of detailed track listing info should best be left to articles on the individual recordings themselves or - perhaps - in the "discography" article. My personal preference would be to not list individual tracks in the discography article itself so I have "parked" this info here for now - in case other editors disagree and wish to return it to the main article and/or add it to the discography article. Missing at least one album

The discography is missing A Celebration of the Voice http://www.amazon.com/A-Celebration-Of-the-Voice/dp/B002LFQ8LC --Johncolton (talk) 16:46, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

It appears this particular album (from 1996) has been released under several different names. The original release appears to be from c. 1996 titled, Nothing But Blue Skies, The irving Berlin Songbook or The Swingle Singers Sing Irving Berlin. This same recording appears in digital mp3 releases as [http://www.amazon.com/A-Celebration-Of-the-Voice/dp/B002LFQ8LC A Celebration Of the Voice] and as (a CD-R offering?) [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JKM3LG/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk Top Hat White Tie And Tails]. As one reviewer on amazon.com notes, the album covers for these later digital releases are fairly deceptive as they depict the members of the original French "Swingle Singers" (in pre-1974 photos) who had nothing to do with this 1996 recording made decades later by the London-based successor group.

Swingle Novae

I moved the Swingle Novae piece up to the main discography. It's one of their important avant-garde works that belongs alongside the Berio and Hodeir pieces. It is NOT, for example, just the group making a brief appearance on someone else's record album. Also, this recording has nothing to do with Jean-Claude Eloy's "Faisceaux/Diffractions", which just happens to be on the other side of the LP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.36.144.92 (talk) 12:16, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I understand the rationale for moving this particular album into the "main" Swingle Singers discography, but it seems wrong to omit / alter the title of the album. Although the two LP sides feature unrelated recordings by two different groups, the album's title typically appears as Faisceaux / Diffractions / Swingle Novae, not Swingle Novae.

I changed the entry to something we (hopefully) can agree is correct. I guess the problem is how to cite just one of the pieces on a record album.

Of course, those music sites you listed above often just get their information from each other, so inaccuracies are constantly perpetuated, such as the idea that there is a single piece of music called Faisceaux / Diffractions / Swingle Novae which is absolutely incorrect.

Side one is a single piece by Eloy called Faisceaux-Diffractions.
