Breaking the cable

It's never been established that that the Gate can't disengage with matter crossing the event horizon, we actually see it happen quite often, just that it won't if it is able to avoid it. It's how the Goa'uld infested Kowalsky is killed in The Enemy Within, I'm pretty sure that one episode had somebody comically losing a piece of equipment in the Gates event horizon (The back end of a gun disappearing, or something like that), and there are other occurances that aren't coming to my mind at the moment. The power supply explains why this one wormhole doesn't stay open until the 38 minute limit, but even with sufficient power it would have shut off anyway. JBK405 01:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I can't remember the specific episode but I'm pretty sure that somewhere one of the characters (probably Carter) stated that although the gate will shut off if all the matter hasn't gone throught, the object wouldn't be rematerialized until everything goes through, so, at least according to that, the gate should have shut down but Ernest shouldn't have been rematerialized. 70.105.232.19 16:20, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

I think you're thinking of McKay in 38 Minutes, where he specifially states that the Gate only sends things through in "whole pieces" (Which is why, when somebody puts their hand into the Gate, it doesn't appear out the other Gate until the rest of the person goes through), meaning that it waits until the whole thing is past the event horizon before transporting it. That is a direct contradiction to this episode, and others as well (Just like here, in one episode Teal'c was using an air-hose that went through the Gate to Earth). Unfortunately, until we get some kind of outside comment from official sources (An interview or press release or whatnot), we don't know which is the "correct" version (Although I think it'll be McKay's statement), so right now all we can do is mark that the episodes contradict. Inscriptions

I don't think we have enough info on the Nox and Furling languages to do anything with them, or even identify which is which (although I personally think the swirling script seems "in-character" for the Nox). The Ancient script used here is obviously not like the one used later in the series, so nothing useful there either. I have, however, made a stab at transliterating the Asgard inscription; it seems to use Anglo-Saxon Futhorc runes. Most of it seems to be gibberish, but that last line looks like "hello", which is interesting. The orientation of the runes seems to indicate that it's written in a boustrophedon manner.

Returning to this planet via the Stargate

What is the exact reason for not being able to dial the gate to go back once again? No power supply from the DHD to accept incoming wormhole?

The old Ernest states that the storm comes once a year and as best that I can tell despite the roof caving in as they escape it may be possible that the cables leading from the roof are not disconnected. I am not sure if this has been tidied up in some later episodes but they should be able to dial the gate again on an annual basis as the annually returning storm will power the gate "capacitors". For now this appears as a plot opening for future use (one that may not have been explored further).

A wormhole is prevented from forming if a significant obstruction is present inside the stargate's ring. So if the gate and the Castle have fallen into the ocean, its highly likely its is now covered, and render unusable. 170.65.188.1 (talk) 00:29, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
