Tidy up

edit

I've done a quick run through and tidied it up as well as adding links and categories. It is notable (as the links should prove) but I'd like to see it expanded quite a bit to look at the history, background and panic it caused. (Emperor 00:31, 30 April 2007 (UTC))Reply

Remakes/Rebroadcasts

edit

I've lived in the Buffalo area all my life and found this article interesting. I have 2 questions that maybe someone can help clear up:

1) When I was in college in the late 90s, I remember hearing numerous radio promotions of an upcoming rebroadcast of War of the Worlds that had been recorded in Buffalo in the 70s. But then a day or two before the scheduled broadcast, there was simply an announcement that it would not be airing as planned, with no explanation. Am I misremembering? This article states that the original 1968 version was rebroadcast in 1998 on WKBW so the timeline would match up. I found a Buffalo news article which stated that the broadcast was upcoming ( https://buffalonews.com/news/aliens-art-bell-and-ratings-haunt-halloween-airwaves/article_d0e4444a-fd39-595e-99d3-9a164d954368.html ) but I couldn't find anything saying that it actually occurred. Also, I don't think I've ever listened to WKBW because as a kid/teenager I mainly listened to WHTT (then "Oldies 104") yet I remember hearing those announcements. But since some radio stations in the same area are owned by the same company, I guess it wouldn't be that strange for one station to promote something from another station.

2) In the "Subsequent Remakes" section, are these true remakes (with the entire thing being re-recorded) or simply re-edits with a few changes? From the descriptions, it sounds like the 71/73/75 versions all used the original recording from 1968 as the basis, and then just made some edits to replace/re-record the parts done by people who were no longer with the station. If that's the case, maybe the heading should be "Subsequent Versions" or "Subsequent Rebroadcasts"?
