Proposed move
editThe title of this page should be changed to The Wilderness Society (US). This article conflict with an article already entitled "The Wilderness Society," an Australian conservation group. The Australian group is the only one that appears in search results. Both articles should appear when searching for "The Wilderness Society" ; Talk:The Wilderness Society -- U.S. — 204.5.3.2 19:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Since The Wilderness Society (United States) was open I moved the article there. This is a better dab title with the country spelled out. I don't expect any objections. I also recommend that The Wilderness Society become a dab page. 04:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Article Evaluation
editI think this is a good article. All the information relates to The Wilderness Society in some way. The article gives a good amount of background knowledge to understand why the group was created and also what the group has accomplished and hopes to accomplish. A few notes, under the Achievements section talking about the conservation laws there's two that don't have any references and also no information about them. It's good to note these but I have no knowledge about these laws so it can leave a reader guessing what those bills were for. Under accomplishments there's very little references so a few might want to be added. This information seems up to date with information from 2016 being added which helps to see the group is still very active.
Membership numbers
editJust wanted to share a note on membership numbers. There was a citation needed tag added by a previous editor. In researching this information, I found a document by the Bureau of Land Management published a little over a year ago showing that the organization had a total amount of members around 130,000. However, the website of the organization on the home page only a year later states they have over 1 million members. Both sources are self-reported as the BLM document has information about the organization that appears to have been sent in by the organization. How to compare these vastly different numbers? I am noticing that some organizations appear to be no longer offering memberships at a certain cost with the hopes that you also donate, but that they now only have the option to donate for a membership. I think organizations generally are moving to a membership model where any unique donation counts as a membership.
I checked two recent annual reports of the organization and did not readily see the membership numbers so this could be the case. If anyone does find a reliable source for this information regarding membership numbers, please include that information in the article. Adam MLIS (talk) 22:06, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
