Viewer vs critic ratings
editSo we're not allowed to mention the fact that, although critics liked this show, viewers detested it? Fahrenheit666 (talk) 09:09, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- Audience ratings can easily be manipulated one way or the other. I disliked the series too, but claims need reliable secondary sources. See MOS:TVAUDIENCE. Cheezknight (talk) 09:19, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've just been reading MOS:TVAUDIENCE. It does not say what you are claiming it says. For example, "Review aggregation websites such as Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic are citable for data pertaining to the ratio of positive to negative reviews". That is exactly what I added to the article. Fahrenheit666 (talk) 09:21, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, and the sentence prior to that directly states "Be careful when searching for reviews to make sure they are coming from professional reviewers" and further down "Do not include user ratings submitted to websites... as they are vulnerable to vote stacking and demographic skew." - Right, got it. Although both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic list and rate critic AND user reviews, the denizens of the Wikipedia swamp have decided that only critics are worth listening to and actual real people who watched the show don't count.
- Next time you're agonizing over why Trump won the election, remember this conversation. Because this is why Trump won.Fahrenheit666 (talk) 09:32, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't write the guidelines. I agree with you that audience ratings can be important to record in cases where it radically differs from the critics consensus, but they are too often skewed, usually into the negative. Whether you agree with that or not is up to you.
- If you find secondary sources to back up your claim(s) please add them. And if someone disputes your edit, continuing to make it (whether that's adding or removing content) is edit-warring. Cheezknight (talk) 09:56, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
