List of episodes

edit

Strange that this well known series has been on Wikipedia for years with out an episode list. Decided to fix that and got a significant start on the list and gone about as far as I can. Would encourage others to help in any way they can. Here it is User:Hydroxonium/List of The Woodwright's Shop episodes Any help is greatly appreciated. - Hydroxonium (talk) 16:00, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Added a list of all the episodes I could find. Could not find episode title information for season 16, so it was left off this list. For those wishing to work on this, there is a much more detailed list at User:Hydroxonium/List of The Woodwright's Shop episodes although it needs to be re-written to meet Wikipedia standards (see page for more details). - Hydroxonium (talk) 04:55, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Splitting of episodes

edit

I have found enough episode data to create an episode list. So I will be splitting off the episodes to their own article as long as there are no objections. - Hydroxonium (talk | contribs) 11:13, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Number of seasons/episodes

edit

There seems to be some confusion about the total number of seasons and episodes because of the way the show changed season numbers after going national. Every season has 13 episodes. Starting in 1979, the first 2 seasons were only broadcast in North Carolina on UNC-TV. (2 * 13 = 26 episodes). In 1981, the shows were broadcast nationally on PBS and the season numbers started at 1 again. This is where the confusion comes in because of restarting the season numbers. As of June 2010, 29 seasons have been broadcast nationally. (29 * 13 = 377 episodes).

So the total number of seasons is actually 31. 2 UNC-TV seasons plus 29 PBS seasons. (2 + 29 = 31 seasons). And the total number of episodes equals the 26 shows broadcast in North Carolina plus the 377 shows broadcast nationally. (26 + 377 = 403 episodes).

This can be confirmed by looking at the far left hand column of the season tables at User:Hydroxonium/List of The Woodwright's Shop episodes and noticing that the total number of episodes is 403 after the 2 North Carolina seasons and the 29 PBS seasons. - Hydroxonium (talk) 01:38, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good work, I worked the numbers into the intro. I also changed the table formatting a little. 1) since the episodes all air in the fall, I would just use the one year. 2) The new column widths work better on wider screens. 3) In the sample list under you user page you have director and writer columns, but does this show have writers and directors as such? I was under the impression from watching, that it is essentially unscripted. I.E. those fields would be highly repetitive with Underhill always as writer, and only a handful of directors. Perhaps the seasons director could be mentioned in text before each table. —MJBurrage(TC) 18:45, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the help. It looks much better. I went ahead and created a seperate article for the episodes as I found enough info to create one. (see List of The Woodwright's Shop episodes) Would you mind stopping by there and cleaning it up? I am hoping to work a little more on this page, adding some info, and maybe getting the "stub" tag removed. It's a shame that only two of us Wikipedians are working on this article, especially knowing how popular the show is. Oh Well, two is better than none. - Hydroxonium (talk | contribs) 23:50, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Done, thanks again for all the work. —MJBurrage(TC) 12:50, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much. It is a LOT of work, isn't it. I appreciate the expert help. I will be working on this article in the coming days/weeks. I'm still learning, so if you could follow up behind me and fix my mistakes, that would be great. Thanks. - Hydroxonium (talk | contribs) 01:37, 19 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

List of episodes created

edit

I have completed the article List of The Woodwright's Shop episodes and with the help of MJBurrage it now looks very good. The page I used to develop the article is no longer needed and I'm requesting it be deleted. Therefore, I am striking out all references to it in this talk page. - Hydroxonium (talk | contribs) 09:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

This article needs copyediting

edit

I've added a lot of information to this article. Some is probably useful, some is probably not. This article needs to have somebody go through it, removing extraneous information and checking it for problems.

  • Spelling, grammar and punctuation need to be checked
  • Flow, style and conciseness need to be checked

I am adding the {{copyedit}} tag. Any help is greatly appreciated. - Hydroxonium (talk | contribs) 12:36, 28 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for pointing that out. I have marked it as a dead link. Will see if it can be replaced or if it was archived. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 20:47, 1 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

What is this? A "How To" web site?

edit

The sections on tools is inappropriate. Wikipedia is not a "How To" web site. =//= Johnny Squeaky 02:23, 10 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lists in Overview?

edit

I think we should remove the lists of wood joints, hand tools and machine tools from the overview. The lists aren't really necessary in the article at all and definitely not as part of the overview from an outline structure point of view.

I think it was be sufficient to say "he employs a wide variety of traditional joinery methods, hand tools and early woodworking machines" or something similar and then link to various articles that discuss these tools and their uses.

I'm willing to make the changes if there are no disagreements, but if someone more vested in this article wants to restructure it, I'd welcome that as well.

More than woodworking...

edit

The series has also included shows on ironworking with blacksmithing experts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.158.48.90 (talk) 10:11, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Emmy nominations.

edit

According to this article, the show has been nominated three times for daytime Emmy Awards: "An Interview With Roy Underhill Host of The Woodright's Shop" - https://www.motherearthnews.com/nature-and-environment/interview-with-roy-underhill-zmaz85ndzgoe Since the article is dated November/December 1985, perhaps there have been other nominations? In going to the Television Academy site, I can't get the search function to take me to past-nominee-non-winners. Search functions hate me as a general rule.
