I added a link to a 1984 article about Themis. someone with access to a library that has it should be able to read it and get far more information about the plant. --Alvestrand 06:03, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I found the following in the article, but it looked as if it belonged here:

I knew of a planned project that was to use Nitrate salts (Potassium and sodium) in California back in the early 90’s. The plan was similar to the French venture Themis in which the salts would be melted by mirrors reflecting sun light to a sludge mixture of the two nitrate salts placed in a tower. Because nitrate salts can hold the heat at high temperatures the sludge could be made more liquefied and from that higher temperature the excess heat could be used to run steam generators. The remaining sludge would then be pumped back into the chamber for re-heating. The system was closed so there was very little if any loss of the nitrate salts and as long as the sun was shinning, the heat transfer could take place. The numbers I saw on the proposal was very lucrative for oil and coal prices back in the early 90’s so today should be even more advantageous. I don’t know what ever happened to this project as I left the Nitrate Company that was being approached to supply the raw materials back then. But the idea has always intrigued my interests. Is there anyone who knows if this project ever got off the ground?

So I moved it. Anyone care to answer? (I don't know anything about this project) --Alvestrand 14:37, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
