Chandler was obviously the grandson of William E. Chandler by the latter's first marriage to Ann Gilmore and not his second marriage to Lucy Lambert Hale. Chandler was born in 1894, and Lucy Hale had her only child in 1885, so it's a biological impossibility for him to have been her grandson.
