Greetings -

I am planning to expand this article quite a bit and to refocus its emphasis on the modern Theosophical Society in America that is based in Wheaton, Illinois.

In an updated History section I want to clarify that three organizations have had the name "Theosophical Society in America." The first existed from 1895 until 1898, when Mrs. Tingley folded that group into her Universal Brotherhood. Then Ernest Temple Hargrove and associates took up the name and used it until 1908. The current Theosophical Society in America has used that name for 75 years, since 1934.

I am the archivist for that TSA, and believe that it would be reasonable for the article to focus primarily on our organization, with appropriate references to the older groups. The history and presidents of our sister society in Pasadena are out of place in this article. I plan to add sections on the Philosophy, Objects, and Mission statement of the Society, followed by History, Organization, Membership, Leadership, National headquarters, Activities, etc. with a final section covering Other Theosophical societies in the United States.

Your comments are welcome. I could also see the possibility of a future article on the "Theosophical Movement in the United States."

Hi Janet. You should be aware of Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, although it does not mean that you cannot edit this article. (i.e., you can edit the article, as long as your edits abide by Wikipedia policy.) — goethean 18:55, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi Goethan. I am determined to be fair-minded, balanced, and neutral - hence the disclosure of who I am and the attempts to contact previous editors like you. My professional experience gives me specialized knowledge of this topic, and I have been reviewing the historial aspects with several Theosophical historians who are not affilated with the TSA. I want to present useful, factual, well-supported material without any puffery or snideness. AhimsaJ (talk) 21:51, 8 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have added new sections to the article, and plan to replace most of the remaining material tomorrow. AhimsaJ (talk) 23:58, 29 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
