editawesome article! that chart is beautiful!!Kingturtle 03:10 May 6, 2003 (UTC)
That's user:fonzy's work, I think. I'll go change the others so they say The Simpsons, and it will become the de facto standard before many more are filled in. :-) Koyaanis Qatsi
-Thankyou for that complement. :-) -fonzy
I remember this being the first episode aired in Australia, can anyone confirm this? - Diceman 17:41, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
- Nevermind. - Diceman 14:40, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Diceman, that is my understanding. I thought this was the first episode until reading Wikipedia Dankru 08:24, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Homer's character
editI watched this epiode again recently and it is notable how different Homer's character is from usual. In fact he and Marge seem to have been reversed: She shovels down dinner with the kids while Homer watches in horror. And Homer sells the TV to pay for family therapy. is it worth noting how different the characters are in this episode? 172.214.190.239 00:44, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Realistic Flesh tones
editJust seen this episode again on TV, and noticed what Homer says at the end of the episode: "We're gonna get a new TV: Twenty-one inch screen, realistic flesh tones..."
Seeing as The Simpsons have yellow skin, i'm amazed i've never picked up on this before! JaffaCakeLover 18:32, 13 December 2007 (GMT)
Goofs
editIt's forgivable that Homer relates a memory of his mother (demeaning him) that seem inappropriate given her later characterization, HOWEVER there's a fairly obvious one in the electro-room. Monroe says he needs to fire up the generator, but when the Simpsons repeatedly shock each other, the lights in the clinic dim, followed by the entire city. His machine requires a generator but draws on municipal power?
GA Review
editThis review is transcluded from Talk:There's No Disgrace Like Home/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
Here are some things that need revising before the article can pass its GA nomination:
Because both of the paragraphs in the lead are rather short, it would look better if they were merged into one.It was noted that the characters acted different from what they would do in later seasons. - awkward wording --> It was noted that the characters acted differently from how they would act in later seasons. It was an early episode for Mr. Burns, in which he had a different voice than the one it would later become. - is this because he was voiced by a different actor? If so --> It was an early episode for Mr. Burns, who was voiced by a different actor than in later seasons.- when it was first produced it played out differently. - is it known how it played? what were the major differences?
This episode would have been one of the first seen by British viewers. - this makes it sound like it would have been, but wasn't for some reason. Since it was --> This episode was one of the first seen by British viewers.would later appear --> later appearedThe picture in the infobox is not low resolution.
Overall, not too much to change. There are also a few comma errors, but I'll fix those once everything else is taken care of. Nikki311 03:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've crossed out what has been accomplished. What about the other two points? Since progress has been made, I'll give another day or two for these. Nikki311 18:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't want the article to fail just because two points, so .... can we just remove this section: when it was first produced it played out differently and about the picture, are you sure it's not low resolution? Corn.u.co.pia ♥ Disc.us.sion 06:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- The picture has been changed to low resolution, so I crossed that off. I don't think the info should be removed, it was just a suggestion to help out the article. Even without the info, I think the article is good enough to pass at this point. Please note, however, that the info should be included if the article wants to pass the comprehensive aspect of the Featured Article criteria. Nikki311 01:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Possible reference to the 1973 film The Wicker Man
editThe scene in which Marge and the other wives are dancing in a circle while Marge sings the "Drink the drink that I have made" song seems to be eerily reminiscent of the scene in The Wicker Man where the local women and children are dancing around a pole. Am I wrong? Could this possibly be another cultural reference contained in the episode? Thanks. Ericster08 (talk) 01:29, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
