Magma Series Update

edit

I was thinking that the alkaline series should be included in the introduction together with the tholeiitic and cal-alkiline (which are by the way part of the sub-alkaline series), they might comprise roughly 1% of the volume but more than 50% of the rocks listed by the IUGS.

Magma Series

edit

Does anyone object to renaming this article "tholeiitic magma series" or "tholeiitic"? It doesn't make much sense to just describe as a basalt. Also, how do you rename a page?Rppeabody (talk) 04:38, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Moved the page to "Tholeiitic Magma Series." I also considered "tholeiitic." Does anyone prefer "tholeiitic"?Rppeabody (talk) 04:45, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

AGI 41

edit

The obscure , unexplained reference "(AGI, 41)" is included in this article (it was once included twice, but the other occurrence was removed by User:Rppeabody in March 2011). I guess AGI may be the American Geological Institute, in which this may be a reference (perhaps a page reference) to the Dictionary of Geological Terms included in the "references" list. In the absence of better information, I will remove the reference in its current form. Hopefully, someone can authoritatively replace it with a Wiki standard format reference / citation. Petrography

edit

This section seems specific to tholeiitic basalt, and that seems slightly out of place here. I think it should either be expanded to describe distinctive petrography of the tholeiitic series as a whole, or be dropped altogether. Preferences? --Kent G. Budge (talk) 16:30, 29 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
