I have removed the following paragraph from the lead:

From baptismal records he appears to be the son of William and Mary Williams of Talgarth, Breconshire, Wales and was baptised on 29 June 1725 in the non-conformist chapel of Tredustan, near Talgarth.^[1] William Williams was connected to the non-conformist Vavasor Griffiths’s Academy which operated from 1735 to 1741.^[1]^[2] In 1736 or 1737 Griffiths moved his home to Chancefield near Talgarth; he retaining his pastorate, and was teaching at the Carmarthen Academy, Llwyn-llwyd as well as at Chancefield.^[3] At this time the Welsh Methodist revival influenced the older nonconformist churches, or dissenters — the Baptists and the Congregationalists — who in turn also experienced growth and renewal. As a result, by the middle of the nineteenth century, Wales was a predominantly a nonconformist country.^[4]

Of those four references, only the first one mentions Williams, and that one by now carries an explicit disclaimer that Thomas Williams' birthdate and parentage are not confirmed since there's a likelihood that the Thomas Williams described in our article and the one born to William Williams in 1725 are one and the same, but no definitive link.
