Edited a few things:

1. "composed ... jokes" seemed an unusual syntax, so that has been finessed.
2. the use of "show business" when referring to the early modern stage is highly anachronistic. fixed.
3. "which did better" was changed to "which proved more successful" just because it sounds better.  :)

d'Urfey or Butler?

The quotation attributed here to d'Urfey (1653-1723) ("All animals, except man, know that the principal business of life is to enjoy it.") is attributed by most internet sources to Samuel Butler (1835-1902). And it is true that the quoted language does appear in Chapter 19 of Butler's novel, The Way of All Flesh. The d'Urfey attribution in this article is not sourced or grounded in any way. If no source or attribution is added within a reasonable time period, I think it would be appropriate to delete the quotation from the article. The only on-line page associating the quoted words and d'Urfey appears to rely on this article.
