Re the question of whether this article should be merged with "Thompson groups", I would say definitely not. The sporadic Thompson group and the infinite Thompson groups are about as unrelated as two concepts in group theory can be, and are named completely independently after two different people both called Thompson. - There are three sporadic groups with names that need disambiguation. McLaughlin group (mathematics), Suzuki group (mathematics), and Thompson group (mathematics). This disambiguation seems the most consistent choice to me.--Foobarnix (talk) 21:23, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
