Crime rate

My original statement about the neighbourhood having a low crime rate came from a Globe and Mail article. I've been looking for a primary source. The statement was changed to assert that Thorncliffe Park has a high crime rate, but a citation would be needed for that as well. I changed the statement back because in the absence of any citation showing that it has a high crime rate the neighbourhood does not have the look of a high-crime neighbourhood (window grilles etc.) and you don't hear a lot of reports of crime there on the news. People are probably confusing Thorncliffe's crime rate with that of Flemingdon Park (the other side of the Don River) where there has been shootings. I feel perfectly safe in Thorncliffe and I would point out that even if it had double the crime rate of the rest of Toronto it would still be very respectable in comparison to most U.S. cities. Clearly saying that it has a high crime rate is incorrect and inaccurate. The most you could justify would be that it has a high crime rate relative to the rest of Toronto (and I'm not sure that is warranted either until I see statistics).

Population

Is it not noteworthy that approximately 40% of the neighbourhood's population is Muslim? It adds a significantly to the feel of the neighbourhood and even the local Pizza Pizza has a big neon sign with "Halal Meat" hanging in the window. The 40% Muslim statistic comes from Jan Wong's article (same as above)

I also hear that 65% of the Thorncliffe Park are immigrants and 30% have come here in the last few years. Maybe someone can come up with a primary source for that (Canada Census?). I also have heard that it is the most densely populated part of Canada. The article does mention 30,000 people living in a planned community meant for 12,500 people. The 30,000 people all live within a few minutes walk so I have no trouble believing it is the mostly densely populated part of Canada but I don't have a primary statistic for that.

I added some demographic information about the neighbourhood from toronto.com, but haven't found any statistics about crime rate or religion. TPS reports crime by division, it seems, and TP is only a small part of 54 Division. I'm starting to wonder if data by neighbourhood are published. I'll keep looking, though.
