Bismarck rocks the house?!
editI'm really very impressed by this, which is Kresspahl's addition (some time ago) of a recording of none other than Otto von Bismarck reading out an extract of this song's lyrics. On the other hand, I worry that it doesn't really work very well here as it stands. When I first saw it I wondered whether it was a joke but then I looked at the edit history and at Kresspahl's other, excellent work and realized that it was not. As it stands, I find it somewhat inaccessible and perhaps a touch confusing. (Disclaimer: let's be honest – many people think I'm an idiot and I certainly confuse easily. Even so, I may have a point here so please bear with me.) It's in a list of musical performances of a song, it features an artist not usually known for his stage work although he does seem to have toured internationally a fair bit, and when you listen to it at first hearing you hear a load of what might seem to be steam engine noises (they ain't) then an announcer telling us, auf Deutsch, where we are and today's date. So even if you've got your ears tuned in – and first time round I most certainly did not – you don't get the great man and the lyrics until eight or nine seconds in. It is, frankly, as confusing as h*ll and I nearly deleted it out of impatience before I did my homework properly then came here instead.
I think its inclusion here is great. It's interesting, fun, and encyclopaedic. It is fantastic that it exists at all and makes you wonder why this particular lyric popped up in the Chancellor's mind when the recordist said go, or perhaps los. So I am absolutely not lobbying for its removal, but I am wondering if there is a way in which we can clarify what's going on here and deconfuse the current situation a little – to make it more accessible on the surface? I'm quite happy to have a go at it myself but I first wondered if Kresspahl or others might want a say or to do it before I start messing around? Addendum (later today) I think it's a further problem, though part of the same thing, that Bismarck is the only recording of the song (well, not even) here. You could quite reasonably think that if you clicked an audio link – an article's top-or-only audio link – then you'd by default of any choice find yourself listening to the song. I wonder if it is possible to find a sung version, without copyright problems, that could precede the more unusual and rather wonderful Bismarck find? DBaK (talk) 11:30, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
