Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Thumb. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

The Thumb isn't a finger as

edit

Each digit has Phalanges a finger has 3 but the thumb only has 2 which mean it isn't a Finger it's a digit on the hand but not a finger[1] Dogsteeves (talk) 00:16, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Full quote from that Hopkins source refers to 14 bones in "the fingers", which means they consider all 5 digits are fingers, or the arithmetic doesn't work: 14 = 3 x 4 + 2 in the thumb.
"Phalanges. The 14 bones that are found in the fingers of each hand and also in the toes of each foot. Each finger has 3 phalanges (the distal, middle, and proximal); the thumb only has 2."
General dictionaries agree that the definition of fingers includes thumbs, at https://onelook.com/?w=finger&ls=a Numbersinstitute (talk) 02:23, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

There is consideration of a merger of the pages First finger, Second finger, Third finger and Fourth finger into a new page. Please discuss at Talk:First finger#Merge (2023), and not here. — HTGS (talk) 23:11, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
