It seems Walter Pohl and others equate the Thuringii with Odoacer's group, the Turcilingi, who may have been a part of the Scirii, who were in any case apparently along with them within the group of peoples that had been powerful within the empire of Attila. Odoacer's father is often thought to have been an important man in that empire. Odoacer himself is associated with the Danubian peoples, and after becoming king of Italy fought for control of the area against the Rugii. Guy Halsall has a section on the earliest mentions of the Thuringii under that name, which seem to be all post Attila. The name of their early laws also seemed to connect them to the Varni? (Varni are also mentioned by Procopius as being very widespread.)--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 15:21, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Removing this statement

I'm removing this statement from the article, which makes a claim about something Procopius said, apparently in "Gothic Wars":

He also mentions a story about a marriage alliance between the Varini and the Angles in England, indicating long distance links.

I couldn't find this statement in "Gothic Wars" and I'm having a hard time finding anything about the Angles in the works of Procopius. Because of that, this statement seems suspicious and I'm removing it; if someone can provide a reliable cite that Procopius did say it, then please do so.--Beneficii (talk) 23:59, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
