The time I met Tony the Tiger
editI had the opportunity to meet Thurl Ravenscroft 8 years ago when I was 16 years old. I was in Anaheim, CA, visiting my grandfather in his retirement community. We are having dinner in the dining area and about 15 minutes into the meal my grandfather points to a man at another table. He says, "That's the voice of Tony the Tiger." I replied, "Really? And he LIVES HERE?" My grandfather nodded and I starting thinking, "If I don't make him say it, I'll kick myself for the rest of my life." I decided to approach him. I explained to Mr. Ravenscroft that my grandfather had just told me who he was, to which he craftily replied, "Who am I?" I said, "You're Tony the Tiger!" He answered, "Yes I am." I asked him, "Can you say it for me?" He knew exactly what I was talking about and blurted out a booming, "THEY'RRRRRRRRE GRRRRRRRRRREAT!" Needless to say, I was very pleased. I thanked him, shook his hand and went back to my meal. I was smiling for the rest of my trip in CA. In retrospect, I should have had him sing, "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch," if I had only known that he was responsible for that glorious moment in human history as well. But perhaps enough was enough. I told everyone I knew when I got home. A memorable yet brief moment.
You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch
editI didn't know that Thurl Ravenscroft sang the song until I read the article, which was relatively recently. I thought it was Boris Karloff, and my dad thought so, too. Gm1121983 12:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Karloff was the narrator. Ravenscroft just sang the song. Classic. —xanderer (talk) 16:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Ravenscroft2.jpeg
editImage:Ravenscroft2.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:33, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Jungle Book
editThis article says he didn't sing Shere Khan's bass parts in the Jungle Book, but the The Jungle Book (1967 film) says he does. I'm inclined to believe this one, as it's discrediting the other, but can anyone find any proof?
Confusion regarding Tony the Tiger
editIn this article it seems to say he had voiced Tony from the beginning until his death, but in the Tony the Tiger article it mentions other people as having voiced him, which is correct? BenW (talk) 14:14, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Raven+Clooney
editWith Rosemary Clooney he did a famous job, in singing in "This ole house" - add it into the article! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.32.197.179 (talk) 17:48, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Pronunciation
edithow do you pronounce his first name?--74.178.228.25 (talk) 04:36, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I once knew a Thurl who rhymed it with 'curl'. —Tamfang (talk) 17:36, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Atom Ant?
editAnyone know if he was the narrator for the Hanna-Barbara 'Atom Ant' opening?Rickremember (talk) 10:39, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Vocal Range
editListening to Mr. Ravenscroft sing and speak I'm not so sure he was a basso profundo. But he was definitely a bass. Basso profundo often implies that the voice is "freakishly" low. He had a good deep booming voice but I'm just not so sure he was a profundo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.72.213.153 (talk) 23:26, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- (Remnoved my "contribution." It was thoroughly unnecessary.) Kostaki mou (talk) 22:40, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
contradiction in the article?
editI see this as a nicely written article, but there is one problem: the info box says that he was active until 1998 but the article says that he was active until 2005. I'm not sure if I'm taking part of the article out of context, if the info box contradicts the article, or if it's both. Geekynerdyguy1996 (talk) 17:06, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Opera?
editThis article listed Mr. Ravenscroft in two operatic categories. Outside of early operatic aspirations, there's no documentation for any such performance or recording. Operatic quality voice? Heck yes, but that goes for Bessie Smith, Hank Williams, and Muddy Waters, also. Just to mention a few. The categories have been removed and one editor will be contacted. I feel like I'm related to this guy
editI was born on the same day Ravenscroft died, May 22, 2005. Not only that, I eat Frosted Flakes for breakfast 4 times a week. And I also like tigers.
Coincidence? Maybe.
Shouldn't we add a mention of the fact that he's a character in the Jerry Seinfeld film Unfrosted? 98.123.38.211 (talk) 03:48, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
