editWhile researching the article on the deep water port proposed for Bathurst Inlet I came across a reference that said that warm weather caused the ice road to not be open long enough to ship a year's worth of supplies to the mines, and that this triggered renewed interest in supplying the mines via a permanent road from the Bathurst Inlet port.
The table in this article does not support the report that 2005's transport of supplies fell short.
This article and the one on Bathurst Inlet should link to one another. The conflicting reports form 2005 should be addressed.

- Do you have the reference handy? It's needed for the Bathurst Inlet article. None of the the three references given mention 2005 and it not freezing up. The two non-government ones mention that climate change put the ice road's future in doubt and it would be cheaper to use the port. The government one mentions climate change but that has to do with an extended shipping season. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 16:26, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

editAdditional Background on opening/closing dates. I was not sure if going back to 1984 would be useful as all I have found is a table on opening/closing dates that are otherwise not available, published on the NWT Government transportation website. The usefulness may be to show how warming trends economically effect commercial operations. Here are the opening/closing dates extracted from a spreadsheet link on http://www.dot.gov.nt.ca/Highways/Winter-Roads. The road is referred in the table as the Lupin Mine road. I don't know when/if/why the name changed.
Lupin Mine 1984 17-Feb - 14-Apr 1985 30-Jan - 8-Apr, 1986 22-Jan - 7-Apr, 1987 14-Jan - 1-Apr, 1988 N/A - N/A 1989 12-Feb - 9-Apr. 1990 14-Feb - 7-Apr, 1991 1-Feb - 22-Mar, 1992 23-Jan - 13-Mar 1993 28-Jan - 22-Mar, 1994 3-Feb - 1-Apr, 1995 18-Jan - 3-Apr, 1996 25-Jan - 13-Apr 1997 28-Jan - 12-Apr, 1998 19-Jan - 4-Apr, 1999 1-Feb - 30-Mar, 2000 28-Jan - 3-Apr 2001 1-Feb - 13-Apr, 2002 26-Jan - 16-Apr, 2003 1-Feb - 2-Apr, 2004 28-Jan - 31-Mar 2005 26-Jan - 5-Apr, 2006 5-Feb - 26-Mar, 2007 28-Jan - 8-Apr, 2008 28-Jan - 7-Apr 2009 1-Feb - 25-Mar, 2010 4-Feb - 21-Mar, 2011 28-Jan - 31-Mar, 2012 1-Feb - 28-Mar 2013 30-Jan - 31-Mar, 2014 30-Jan - 1-Apr, 2015 30-Jan - 31-Mar Note: After the "Ice Road Truckers" first season, the operators have been very secretive about operations of the ice road. This information may not be obtainable in any other place, so please do not delete it here. Do you think this should be added to the main table? Travelslow (talk) 04:48, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
