Page name and some notes

edit

Soupforone Could I make a request? The title of this page needs to be changed because it is incorrect. It should be titled, Biher Tigrigna or Kebessa. In Tigrinya or English as a matter of fact we do not refer to ourselves as "Tigrigna" or "Tigrinyas". Tigrinya is the name of the language Tigrayans speak, and the name of the language Kebessa people speak. Tigrinya happens to be the same in English and Tigrinya, if Amharic wasn't, you wouldn't exactly call the Amhara people "Amarignas" would you? In Tigrinya: Biher Tigrinya= Official name of the ethnic group, or Kebessa. Biher means 'ethnictiy'. Tigrawey/Tigraweyti= Name of male/female Tigrinya speakers in the Ethiopian TIgray region Tigre= This is the Amharic name for the Tigrinya speakers in Tigrinya, not to be confused with the Tigre in Eritrea, which has a different vowel sound for e.

Secondly, the other article named Tigrayans needs to be changed to Tigrayans-Biher Tigrinya because Tigrayans just means people from the region Tigray that speak Tigrinya. The article mentions both of us so it should be changed.

So I think these two things needs to be changed, because "Tigrinyas" simply is just way to vague, it could mean anyone from the two regions. Resourcer1 (talk) 19:35, 12 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, per WP:TRIBE, the title must respect the ethnic group's autonym. Biher-Tigrinya would therefore perhaps work better. Soupforone (talk) 02:17, 17 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merger is questionable

edit

The merger which user Turtlewong did was dubious and agenda driven. I reverted back so that Tigrinyas exist as separate article. Discussion with reliable sources needed. Editornoir (talk) 03:04, 23 August 2018 (UTC) August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Editornoir:, there was a discussion. A link was placed on both articles to the discussion which was, as is appropriate, at Talk:Tigrayans. You can't just come in and undo it. Please discuss it there.
I discovered that the IP that undid the merge is an IP that was blocked for a month at for legal threats [1] with a recommendation that they be blocked indefinitely if they returned for this edit.[2] Whoever this is, the legal threat has not been withdrawn and the threat of violence is clearly unacceptable. I've blocked for a year, please let me know if an ip address with details starting with 2001:558:600a:83: returns. Doug Weller talk 10:28, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Editornoir turned out to be a sockpuppet, same as the blocked IP, thus I've struck their edit. Doug Weller talk 17:57, 3 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Move discussion in progress

edit

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Tigrayans which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 18:00, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
