Tilahun Gessesse's Tragic Death

edit

Tilahun Gessesse decided to spend Ethiopian Easter in Ethiopia. His wife tried to persuade him not to leave New York for health reasons. After landing in Bole Airport in Ethiopia Gessesse barely spent seven hours there before suffering a fatal heart attack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.169.48.205 (talk) 20:11, 20 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Childhood, Grandfather, etc

edit

The only seriously under referenced part of this article now is the early life section.

Why was he taken to live with his grandfather, can we find references for his schooling, his running away to Addis, etc. Jezhotwells (talk) 12:43, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Funeral services for Tilahun Gesesse held in Ethiopia Ethio Planet News - ‎21 hours ago‎ --Is this just a typo? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kdammers (talkcontribs) 14:38, 24 April 2009

Sorry you'll have to help me there. Is what a typo? There are many variant spellings of the name when rendered from Amharic script into the Latin alphabet. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:38, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
A typo is a typographical error. If there are many variant spellings, then there should be redirects from them to the one where the main article is. When I looked for an entry using the Ethio Planet News spelling, I got an automated message that therewas no article on Gesesse. Kdammers (talk) 03:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I did actually say Is what a typo? not What is a typo?, I was asking for clarification of what the original unsigned poster asked. I have created redirect pages. Jezhotwells (talk) 14:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

How about allegations of sexual abuse against his own step daughter ? Misteriously, we've never heard the end of the investigation of his incident, the murder attempt in his own bath tub  ????? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.73.69.218 (talk) 03:16, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

You should seriously consider backing this up with reliable sources. I think that even applies to this talk page. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:47, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ethiopian Empire vs Italian East Africa

edit

@Superinformative: He was born in 1940. Italian entered to Ethiopia on May 6, 1936 and control much of extension in the Horn of Africa. They divide the monarchy into parts: Italian Ethiopia, and Italian Eritrea. However, they together merged with Somalia and Djibouti, and formed new government called "Italian East Africa". I don't care about the sovereignty status of Ethiopia, but people born between 1936 to 1941 in Ethiopia, or elsewhere in the Horn of Africa, their birthplace should be written by then-government name of their place at that time. So, you're saying that the Ethiopian Empire co-existed at the time of Italian rule. The answer is the Ethiopian Empire was restored its sovereignty after brief defeat by Britain (see the article Ethiopia's infobox). Unfortunately, Tilahun was born between 1936 and 1941 Italian rule. Don't continually revert this edit and discuss here please. The Supermind (talk) 10:31, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dear @Superinformative: you're saying that the Ethiopian Empire co-existed during Italian rule. Italy established colonies in Eritrea and Somaliland prior in 19th century while Ethiopia defended independence by Menelik II in the First Italo-Ethiopian War in 1896. They succeeded at Eritrea.
During 20th century, the aftermath of First World War causes the rise of the main powers of Axis nationalism, Germany and Italy. In Germany, 13 percent of its territory lost and Italy desired to expand its territory. This grown strong nationalist totalitarian views among them. In 1930s, Italy wanted to possess Ethiopia and in 1936, they succeeded to possess. Italy desired to create a polity, comprises the former colonies of Eritrea and Somalia and newly occupied Ethiopia, with Ethiopia serve as central governorate. They did form a state[1] conjoining with former colonies with Ethiopia called "Italian East Africa". Ethiopia was not fully colonized as the latter two, rather to be annexed in confederation with those. If this were succeeded, Ethiopia would deform its geopolitical structure and reputation. But the British forces seized their colony in early 1941 and repelled Italians to the north Africa. Afterward, Ethiopia underwent short period administration by British while maintaining its sovereignty according to the Anglo-Ethiopian Agreement.
