Hi everyone. I havent actually joined the project yet but I thought that a short article on artist Tim Bradstreet was well overdue. I created an article about him. I've never done this before so I'd appreciate it if some of you could go over and check it out. There's a lot of significant artists and writers that have no articles/just a stub dedicated to them. I'd be grateful if you could make your suggestions here. That way I can get used to making corrections/using the right format and - therefore - become a better contributor. First up, welcome. Yeah, there's a lot of comics related topics without articles. At the moment I think we're all bashing away in our own little areas of interest, so it's hit and miss as to what is covered. Second up, it's considered polite to sign your comments when you post to a talk page, doing so using four tildes, ~~~~.

As to your article, it looks like a cut and paste of copyright text from the bio at Bradsheet's homepage. Information from other sources has to be rewritten, you can't just cut and paste. I think this article needs either work to move the text to a form distinct from its source or listing as a copyvio. Sorry to jump on your toes here, its just that Wikipedia has to protect itself from charges of copyright violation.

Hi. Thanks for the welcome. With regards to the bio info, I asked Tim Bradstreet himself for input on the article and he said I could use his bio. He msged it to me himself along with a couple of links. Would this still count as a violation. Does it have to be taken off or reworked extensively? Can't I attach a copyright Bradstreet line underneath? Also, its not cut and paste. I did rework quite a bit of it and added a paragraph.

You can't copyright material on wikipedia, have you looked at any of the links in my last comments? See Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ for more on copyright. Anything placed on Wikipedia can not be marked as copyright. Placing text on wikipedia means it is either public domain or the person writing it agrees to release it under the GNU Free Documentation License. As for your reqorking, I've seen people get called on using the same two words as a source does, and your rework has left far more than that intact. I'm inclined to just list it at Wikipedia:Copyright problems and let them deal with it. I think once a copyvio is in the system its supposed to get deleted anyway. Ok, well, I have permission from Tim Bradstreet (author of the original bio) to use the text. What is the process for him to agree to release it under the GNU license or just to agree to have this text up here? I'm going through the links you sent me but its slow going and sometimes a little confusing. But I am reading them. So forgive me if the answers to the above questions are in there somewhere. I just havent reached them yet.

Time Problem

I removed this text:

Current projects include more movie posters, conceptual art for film and video games. This fall, he will be creating covers for Bad Planet his co-creators on this title being Steve Niles, Thomas Jane, and Lewis Larosa. Bradstreet also intends to see his character Gallows and the story of Red Sky Diary realized on the big screen.

I took it out because the way it it written it is going to go out of date or it is about things that might happen or could happen. Most times it is best to only talk about things that have happened already in an encyclopedia. Qaz 14:57, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Citations for awards?

Can someone help and track down citations for the Horror Writers Guild of America and the Eisner nomination? I can't find old nomination pages for the Eisners. At the very least we really need to know which year he was nominated. As for the HWGoA, I'm very suspicious, since the only webpages I can find on the HWGoA are ones talking about Bradstreet himself. If the group's less noteworthy than Bradstreet himself, are they really worth mentioning? — Alan De Smet | Talk 16:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Interesting point - the entry still has a whiff of PR-speak about it (despite the previous removals of the worst offenders above) and so we need to make sure this is all bolted down properly. I suspect there has been a verbatim copy and paste form publicity material. I did some digging and found he had two award nominations that fit the ones we are looking for:

• 1996 - won the International Horror Writers Guild Award in the category "Artist" [1]
• 2002 - nominated for the Eisner Award in the category "Best Cover Artist", for his Hellblazer covers[2]
• 2005 - nominated for the International Horror Writers Guild Award in the category "Art", for his Hellblazer covers [3]

If that seems good to you (I can't find out what the 1996 award was for - his Hellblazer work would have first appeared in 1999 going by the main entry) I'll create an awards section and drop those in. (Emperor 17:04, 4 August 2007 (UTC))

Good catch, thanks for finding them! I wonder if the IHWG was once the WGoA? Anyway, I added corrected details and cites. Given that there are only three, and only one real award, I'd just leave them as a paragraph, but I don't have a strong opinion on the matter. — Alan De Smet | Talk 21:00, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

My main thinking was that we probably need more sections to help break things up more and an awards section would be one way (I'd also suggest a bibliography as the main section on his work is a little too "listy" - he only drew one Hellblazer for example, with one short story - it is trying to be too inclusive and needs to be down to his main work). Also he has probably won or been nominated for more. No biggie though.

I suspect you might be right. 1996 would be pre-Internet and so it'd be possible that they changed their name in the late nineties and missed the Web window. (Emperor 21:16, 4 August 2007 (UTC))
