Factual correction

I'm pretty sure that Germany invaded Belgium on August 4, 1914, not August 3. The date appears elsewhere on Wikipedia as August 4, also. CopaceticThought (talk) 22:40, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Definition of theater

I think there should be a link to Theater (warfare) in the beginning of the article. Adding it to the of the phrases "Western theater" etc doesn't look nice (as it looks inconsequent). I suggest we try to improve the summary, the first sentence in the article to include this fundamental word. Right now the beginning of the article is as follows:

"The following tables list the main events which happened during World War I."

Lviv

In this article it says: May 10 Troops from Hungary rout the Russians at Jarosław. Lviv is again in Austrian hands. June 27 The Austro-Hungarians re-enter Lviv. both dates are from 1915. How can we get referencing for this article to get B-class? I'm going to try to look up encyclopedias or books to reference. I dont have a comment about that, but the color-coding is atrocious and probably in contravention of WP:ACCESS. Adding the theater in a column would actually provide a valid reason for the table formatting, which currently is in contravention of WP:MOSTABLE-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:15, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Doing a report on this right now, where is the source?

I cannot find a source for this: "Germany warns Russia to stop mobilizing. Russia says mobilization is against Austria-Hungary only."

um Mons?

In the 1914 timeline it says Germany obtained 'victory against the BEF'. Mons is seen here as major Victory for us, always has been. No, the British delayed the German advance, inflicted about the same number of casualties and were forced to retreat, it was a defeat. RegardsKeith-264 (talk) 21:15, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Liberia Declares war on belgium

The sources at Liberia in World War I seem to show liberia declaring war in 1918, not 1914

Please, let's get rid of this horrible color-coding.

This issue was raised before in 2013; people at that time challenged it under access-related provisions of the Wikipedia standards. I'm not very familiar with those, but I do find that the color-coding renders the table all but unreadable, even though I have normal color vision.

I would suggest that the color coding be removed completely and a column be added, "Theater of war" to show which theater the even in question belongs to.

I would be "bold" and do it myself but I don't know anything about editing tables.

A proposal for table layout and coloration

It's been three years since Poihths floated the idea of columns so please see my pilot version under 1914. Here are the salient features:

•  Four columns seems about the practical maximum.

•  I've reduced the number of colors from twelve to nine:
••• Eastern Front/Caucasus, Italy/Balkans and Africa/Middle East have been combined. I realize this is just a start.

•  Major battles are bolded.

•  Naval and Air are placed within the relevant geographic region.

Table Reorganization

The complaints about the color coding are several years old now, but haven't been resolved, so I've decided to start working on it. Based on Poihths's suggestion, and building on the work Hungrydog55 did, I reorganized the 1914 table to have three columns: date, front/theater/campaign, and events. The front/theater/campaign column contains all the information that was provided by color-coding (actually more, as we can add campaigns within a theater now), so color-coding is removed. So far I have only done this for 1914, but over the next few days I plan to do it for the rest of the years.

Start of the war?

The page for the timeline says the first military action was on Aug 2, but the article for the attack on Longwy mentions the war in the Balkans started July 28. So when was the first military action?
