The red dot on the map, does not show the location of Tennis/Tinnis.

edit

Perhaps the red-dot on the map should be moved somewhat lower/southerly to more precisely show its location.96.19.156.227 (talk) 19:30, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Ronald L. HughesReply

Do you mean Tanis for the ancient Egyptian city?Erikwesley (talk) 23:39, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

#Mistaken identity

edit

The ancient city alluded to seems to be Tanis instead. According to the sources I found, the city which existed circa. 800-1150 AD fits the bill better according the the original before I edited[1](which seems to have been lifted from the Colombia link) and the current information I posted fits that. Maybe it should be moved to another category?Erikwesley (talk) 23:39, 8 November 2016 (UTC) Moved. Erikwesley (talk) 16:44, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've just added a "Not to be confused with Tanis" hatnote.

Map of Tennis

edit

I have added a map of Tennis which shows the location. Note that there is confusion about the location discussed above. The map also shows the relation of Tennis to the Fifth Crusade. The change was reverted by a user who is reverting all my changes (edit war) for specious reasons. He simply says the maps are 'inappropriate' which is indefensible and not a justification of reverting all my edits on wikipedia. He is trolling me. If he continues to troll me I am going to send it to dispute resolution. john187 (talk) 19:19, 28 Mar 2021 (UTC)

I think your map could be more accurately described as a map of the Nile River Delta (at an uncertain date) rather than "a map of Tennis" itself. Which is not denigrate it any way, john187.
(However, I am puzzled by the very small lettering for "Tennis" compared to the size of the lettering for other settlements depicted on this map - are you sure it's all your "Own work" rather than derived from an earlier map ?)
I've moved your map from the overcrowded Infobox to a more apposite position next to relevant text in the "Abandonment" section. This move is because MOS:IMAGELOCATION states:
"An image should generally be placed in the most relevant article section; if this is not possible, try not to place an image "too early" i.e. far ahead of the text discussing what the image illustrates, if this could puzzle the reader." BushelCandle (talk) 01:49, 29 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tennis, EgyptTinnis – More common spelling than Tennis and allows natural disambiguation. Compare GScholar results for "city of Tennis" and "city of Tinnis". Srnec (talk) 14:40, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
