Hmm, this'd be an awfully nice idea if it'd work right. :-\ -- John Owens 15:49 Apr 7, 2003 (UTC)

yeah, it says its 2.03pm UTC, but its 14.22 on all my clocks, so its clearly not. And i live in the UTC(former GMT) time zone so, its not out of line. it's just plain wrong.

anyone know how to fix it please. -- Thos. Wm. Dorman III esq. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.236.9.111 (talk) 13:25, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

same here: it is Wed, June 15th 2001, 23.41 CEST here, but the page says Mon, June 13th 2011. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.15.7.187 (talk) 21:42, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

By the way, is there a list somewhere of the codes that can be used in double curly braces like that? I've been wondering about that ever since I saw {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}. -- John Owens 15:53 Apr 7, 2003 (UTC)

It shouldn't be The Today Programme when linked, because the program's full name is Today.

Music Today

edit

I believe there is a song called Today (Coming to America) by Neil Diamond. Assuming I'm correct and Today is the official title, shouldn't it be on this disambiguation page too?

Time Zones

edit

It says today is Tuesday. Actually it's late Monday night here in the Pacific time zone, although it's Tuesday someplace further east. Art LaPella 05:47, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

How can we fix this problem?, could we have something like: Today is Tuesday in some parts of earth and Wednesday in others sort of thing, as having it follow date with geographical location would just be hard, if you get what i mean, or maybe in the future someone could program an interective map illustrating the current date throughout the world--mexaguil 08:43, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

That explantion of today gave me a headache. Good job.

Curret Day

edit

this: Saturday, 2024-11-23 isn't working, it was a over week behind when I updated it. It won't update itself, you have to click 'save page' which basically works like a refresh button and changed it to the current date. Is there some way this could be done automatically? And can we do something so that people in all timezones still have the correct day?

yeah, same for me too —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.235.9.15 (talk) 01:45, August 22, 2007 (UTC)

Still the same here! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.42.207.2 (talk) 14:02, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Seems this is still a problem even several years later. 66.46.213.4 (talk) 19:48, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Problems with interwiki

edit

I've found a problem with the iw links due to the fact that this article is both a disambiguation-page and a description of the present day. Could the article maybe become two? --CarinaT (talk) 20:36, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Archaic spelling "to-day"

edit

Authoritative English military and naval texts written prior to 1920 use the form "to-day".

This is not correct, the usage of "to-day" extends not only to military and naval texts. It should be mentioned that this once was the common spelling, not only extending to the Britons but also being used in New England as can be seen in the works of Henry David Thoreau for example. Up to date it still can be encountered as a variety of spelling in articles and news media, used as archaisms here. Maybe it would also be interesting to give a short outline on this process of merging with the preposition to here, maybe contrasted to "to date". --86.132.155.185 (talk) 18:02, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Realistically that phrasing was in just about every book written in English
I have amended it to show this, but feel that showing lots of references would be silly, so I have included 3, one American and one English military and one novel

Informal use of today after midnight

edit

Hi all

I cannot for the life of me find a reference for the informal use of today after midnight and before someone goes to bed. I know it is quite a common usage, we often get in laughable debates on the subject in teamspeak and on msn, however it may be removed unless someone can find a ref.

Any ideas on another approach ?--Chaosdruid (talk) 21:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

An article or a disambiguation page?

edit

At the moment, this page appears to be an article atop a disambiguation page. I think that one of two changes should be made: Either 1) the definitional material should be transwikied to Wiktionary, if it's not already there, making this a dedicated dab page; or 2) if the article material is deemed sufficient to sustain an independent article, the disambiguation material should be split off to Today (disambiguation). Any thoughts?--ShelfSkewed Talk 16:51, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Day

edit

Do you think you should say that today is Friday, 22 January 2010 rather than just give the date? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.238.34.167 (talk) 00:24, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've added the name of day, How does it look now? regards, Lynbarn (talk) 17:54, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Today's date is wrong.

edit
Today is between Friday, 22 November 2024 and Saturday, 23 November 2024, subject to local timezone.

(moved from article until fixed)

There seems to be some sort of a caching issue with the way the page tells you the current date. When I first loaded the page it was 1 day late, but when I edited the page and clicked preview it gave me the correct date range. Refreshing the page doesn't help, only editing the page and clicking preview does.--71.194.190.179 (talk) 17:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

edit

What is the etymology of the word?  I ask because I find the archaic spelling (to-day) intriguing.  allixpeeke (talk) 01:22, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Today's date

edit

It seems it would be useful to have today's date presented in the article, like with these templates:

{{TODAY}},
{{Today/AD/AH}},
{{Today/AD/SH/AH}},
{{Today/BS/AH/AD}},
{{Today/CE/AM}},

but also with all the other calendars used in the world and described on pages like Gregorian calendar and the year pages like 2019. Those pages show other calendars' reckoning of the year, but not today's date.

- Lhimec (talk) 21:50, 6 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

After further research, to clarify, pages like Gregorian calendar and year pages like 2019 also show, besides the Gregorian reckoning, what the current year is reckoned as in more than 30 other calendars. See {{Year in various calendars}}.

It seems like analogous information (the same day's date as reckoned by all the calendars used in {{Year in various calendars}}) should be available on today or on today's date, or at least somewhere on Wikipedia, since it's just a more fine-grain reference of the same type as {{Year in various calendars}}.

TodayToday (disambiguation) – Recent edits have created what amounts to the beginnings of a broad-concept article on the topic "today" on top of this disambiguation page. As the existing header suggest that such a broad-concept article is needed, the disambiguation page should be moved to the (disambiguation) title, and the article material at the top (including the intoductory material and the Etymology and Dating sections) should be split off to the vacated plain title to establish a new article. —ShelfSkewed Talk 07:25, 12 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I see three pieces of non-DAB-like content currently on the page: 1) Stuff about the definition of a day ("In English-speaking societies, days were formerly considered to have begun at sunset..."), 2) Etymology of today. 3) Today's date in various calendars.
If 1) is to go anywhere, it should be Day. 2) is the domain of wiktionary 3) is, IMO, also not the domain of an encyclopedia. Weather does not list the current weather in various locations, Lunar phase does not give the current phase of the moon, Amazon (company) doesn't give Amazon's current share price, etc.
All that is to say I disagree that we need a Today (time) article to merge this content into. Colin M (talk) 06:10, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
