Combined "Tokyo Subway" page (confusing/incorrect??)
editA long outstanding task from 15 years ago! I regularly visit this page (Tokyo Metro) but had never seen the Tokyo Subway page before. I disagree with User:Mkill as the Tokyo Subway page is confusing and misleading. I think having the combined info is far less user-friendly as the 2 subway systems are completely separate entities with different fares/ticketing/etc - a novice reader will think the 2 subway systems are 1 combined entity and will be confused & frustrated to find out that almost all tickets/passes only work on 1 of the systems, station maps/information mostly only show info for that subway operator, etc.
There are many confusing statements on the Tokyo Subway page. E.g.:
- - "The Tokyo subway (東京の地下鉄, Tōkyō no chikatetsu) is a part of the extensive rapid transit system that consists of..." - there is actually no such thing as "The Tokyo Subway", a made-up term repeated many times through the article.
- - under the list of lines it shows a number of other lines which essentially operate as a "subway" line but aren't included, some of which are "through services" to other company's lines, some are distinct systems, and even the JR Yamanote line is included. It is an arbitrary decision to just include the two major subway operators in that article - given the complex nature of Tokyo's rail system, if the intent of that article is to provide user-friendly information to novice readers on rail services in the inner Tokyo area then it should include services to Tokyo Waterfront/Odaiba (Yurikamome/Rinkai), tourist's favourite Yamanote line, etc.
- - "Both the Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway systems are closely integrated with a unified system of line colors, line codes, and station numbers" - the unified line codes & colours extend across all (~30?) train companies in Tokyo, not just these two systems.
TL/DR; I can't see the point of the combined Tokyo Subway page comprising just the 2 largest subway/Metro companies benefits readers. Merge from Tokyo Subway
editAs it stands now, Tokyo Subway is largely a duplicate of Tokyo Metro, and it seems rather hopeless to keep it in its intended purpose of discussing the Tokyo subway system as a whole (Tokyo#Transportation already does a decent job of that). Jpatokal 10:59, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
- A complete merge is a bad idea, it will mess up all interwiki links (again). The Tokyo subway lemma needs to remain as it is. I would suggest putting all information on the lines (stations, history, technical data) in the Tokyo subway article, and leaving the company data (founding, ownership, revenues etc.) in the articles Tokyo Metro and Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation. My main argument is user-friendlyness: Most non-Tokyoite readers will be confused by the split in two systems and would rather like to have all information on the lines in one article. -- Mkill 07:02, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

- Tokyo Metro is one of the two subway operators in Tokyo. Their lines are numbered jointly. Line 6 is part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation's Toei subway system. Fg2 00:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Numbering scheme
editWhat is the difference netween line numebrs and line letters? It should be noted.
- Basicly none. Is just different names for the same thing. Users prefer to call it by the long name (for example: Ginza Line instead of G line), for foreigns, I suppose I'd me easier to say G followed by the station (G-03).
- I suggest you to go to Tokyo's official transfer guide for fun, I tried it and is kind of cool playing with it. Y ^_^ Y

- The number 4 is avoided by many (but not all) railway companies in their numbering schemes for the same reasons it is often avoided in Japanese society: because it can be read as "shi" (death) in Japanese. --DAJF (talk) 22:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
The annual passengers numbers
editSorry to intrude, but Moscow RTS transports approx. 2,6 billion passengers per year ([1]), which is above 7 million per day, and more than TM's 6,22 M per day. The edit in the header is also mine, sorry I forgot to login.FeelSunny (talk) 14:21, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
