Changes to Tom Cheek page
editHello,
The second to last paragraph in the article originally read:
In 2005, Cheek was nominated for the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame, along with long-time broadcast partner Jerry Howarth.
The paragraph now reads:
In 2005, 2006, and 2007, Cheek was named among the ten finalists for the Ford C. Frick Award by the Baseball Hall of Fame. The award is presented each year, during the Hall of Fame's induction ceremonies, to a broadcaster for "major contributions to baseball."
The following changes were made:
1. Text added to indicate that Tom Cheek was named one of ten finalists for the Ford C. Frick award for each of the years 2005-7. Describing him as a finalist distinguishes him from the nearly 200 broadcasters who were eligible for the award, and therefore, were on the preliminary ballot that was voted on by the general public and considered by the Hall of Fame's research committee. Also added was the purpose of the Ford C. Frick award. (Please note that, on their website - http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/news/2006/061205.htm - the ten finalists for the award are not referred to as "nominees", but as "finalists".)
2. Removed Jerry Howarth's "nomination" for the Ford C. Frick Award. While he is eligible for the award, he was not named a finalist as defined above.
3. Included internal links to Wikipedia pages describing the ten finalists for each of the years 2005-7. This information supports the statements referenced in points 1 and 2 above.
4. Included external link from CBC News, which describes that Cheek has been named a finalist for the third consecutive year.
