Boston University

There are contradicting bios that say Tom Dwan either studied English or Engineering. Until a perfectly reliable reference can be found, it's probably just best to referent his Full Tilt bio and say he studied at Boston. JaeDyWolf (talk) 11:41, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

They aren't necessarily contradictory. The references only state that he enrolled as an engineering major. He could have switched to English afterwards (though that would be a bit unusual). Clarityfiend (talk) 02:25, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

If you watch his interviews, he discusses how he wanted to go into poker full-time after he went to an engineering conference and saw high-paying engineers doing speeches but he thought they still looked unhappy with their lives. (This is in the live Durrr Challenge.) In addition, he's also said that he would have wanted to invent things if he wasn't playing poker. (This was in High Stakes Poker recently, I think s06e06.) Finally, he also says that he was an engineering major. Per WP:BOLD, I'm using the last link as a reference even though, yes, it's a forum post. The account is legitimately his, though (has been for years), and I'm using the post via WP:SELFPUB. Feel free to execute WP:BRD if necessary, but hopefully this should end it. The only real argument on the other side is the Full Tilt website, which frankly I don't think they would care that much if they had the wrong degree. I didn't take the time to run a statistical test, but time ordering a google search appears to show a correlation between the date and the major. Early entries indicate an English major and later entries indicate an Engineering major. Considering how early he dropped, this is more a matter of intention than education. I suspect that he was actually an english major and that for some unknown reason, he decided to rewrite history and become an engineering major. I agree with JaeDyWolf that in view of the contradictory references, the article should just state that "he attended Boston University". --Yqqxbkb (talk) 15:23, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Tom was never an english major, he was always enrolled in the engineering program. Any sources that stated english were just incorrect, he didn't "decide to rewrite history." Why? Full Tilt is in it to make money. Most hands played are small pots, which is where they make their money. Also, the big pots attract more people to play at Full Tilt since they also want to watch these matches. Gary King (talk) 04:39, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
