Thomas Murphy (footballer) → Tom Murphy (Australian footballer, born 1986) – All sources call him Tom, not Thomas (WP:COMMONNAME). (There is another Australian footballer with the same name born in 1998, so both titles would need to be clarified accordingly if the move is made) TeraTIX 07:41, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

- Support both moves per nom. Sources call him Tom. ONR (talk) 22:28, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

- Semi-Support but move to Tom Murphy (footballer, born 1986). Putting Australian in the title doesn't aid in the main disambiguation and just makes it longer. I propose the following footballers from Thomas Murphy#Sports:
- Tom Murphy (American football) (1901–1994), player in the National Football League
- Tommy Murphy (Australian footballer) (1903–1958), Australian rules footballer for South Melbourne
- Tom Murphy (footballer, born 1986) (born 1986), Australian rules footballer for Hawthorn and the Gold Coast (was Thomas Murphy (footballer))
- Tom Murphy (footballer, born 1998) (born 1998), Australian rules footballer for North Melbourne (was Tom Murphy (Australian footballer))
- Tom Murphy (English footballer) (born 1991), English footballer for Farnborough (was Tom Murphy (footballer))
- Tommy Murphy (Gaelic footballer) (1921–1985), Gaelic footballer for County Laois, Ireland
- I've made the English footballer change already, as it was clearly ambiguous as it was.The-Pope (talk) 15:14, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
- I prefer this move. (Related: I have moved Tom Murphy (American football) to Tom Murphy (American footballer) for consistency with the other articles). TeraTIX 12:45, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
- American football, and some other sports, like ice hockey, prefer to use the sport's name as the qualifier, not the name of the competitor in the sport. Consistency within a sport is followed more than consistency across the whole encyclopedia. Expect it to be reverted. The-Pope (talk) 15:05, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
- Wow, okay. I've moved it back. Someone should probably sort this out someday, but I have a strange feeling that a discussion will be more trouble than it's worth. TeraTIX 01:50, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
