Unsourced, moved to talk page
editIn 1979, he married Catherine Thérèsa Lewis, by whom he has two children:
- Arthur Michael Sackville (b. 1983)
- Savannah Elizabeth Sackville (b. 1986)
Sackville was elected Member of Parliament for Bolton West at the 1983 general election, ousting future government minister Ann Taylor. During his time in Parliament, he served as a government whip and a junior minister (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Minister of State for the Home Office). In his Home Office role, he was the minister responsible for dealing with cults/new religious movements, and cut the government's financial support for the advisory group INFORM. In 1997, he lost his seat to Labour's Ruth Kelly by 7,072 votes.
Sackville became Chairman of the voluntary anti-cult group FAIR (Family, Action, Information, Resource) and is now (as of November 2007) the Chairman of its charitable successor, The Family Survival Trust, and (as of May 2009) the President of FECRIS.

Knighthood?
editI reverted an edit by Erty2005 that made the claim "Sackville was knighted for political and public service 2005", which was unsourced. I checked the Queen's Honours Lists for 2005 and he wasn't listed for that year.
