Chat Pad
A pupil at Central Noble Community School in Indiana has been using this page as a personal chatpad and to pretend to be Tom Welling. This page is provided to talk about the Tom Welling article only. If you want to pretend to be Tom, please do so in some fan chat room. Many thanks. Pcb21| Pete 22:34, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Do we have a WP:CITEation for this? If we have a link per Wikipedia:Reliable source that names him as a sex symbol, we've satisfied WP:V. - brenneman(t)(c) 22:13, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Home engineer?
What is a home engineer? Is that anything like a housewife?--Fred 05:15, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's the politically correct term for it. :) Mad Jack O'Lantern 05:45, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's a patronising euphemism. The term implies that the holder has an engineering degree, and works as as structural engineer on residential buildings. Unless the woman is actually an engineer of some sort, I vote for the term "at-home mother," which term is both accurate and commonly understood. Speaking as an at-home mother who doesn't need to be patronised. TheEditrix2 00:19, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Alphabetagamnma is constantly adding nonsense to this article, such as his/her repeated attempts at adding Tom Welling's penis size to teh trivia section. This page needs to be watched for any edits made by that disruptive user. - 124.177.81.247 10:01, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Good point. Like we need to know the size of his you-know-what!
Typecast?
Okay, technically Tom has not played Superman, but just Clark Kent, so that way he wouldn't be typecast, would he? Chris Reeve and George Reeves played Supes, both had tragic lifes and deaths, but Dean Cain still works in Hollywood. Even so, Tom wasn't considered for Superman Returns, but all his resume is Smallville, Judging Amy, The Fog remake, and the two Cheaper By The Dozen films. You think he's gonna do something big once the series is over in the near future? --Jonathan.Bruce 04:34, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Hopefully he will do something else when Smallville ends, like play a killer, druggie, etc. Something Dustin Hoffman would do to avoid being labelled as Ben Braddock.
Height and Weight?
One would think those would be of interest for Superman.
- I agree, could someone please put this up somewhere? TeePee-20.7 05:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Age vs. Roles?
Does anyone think it should be mentioned that though he's over 30 pretty much all of his noteworthy roles have been teenagers? casecloser (talk) 20:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Eh. Clark Kent, in Smallville, is in his 20's now and Welling's only 31. Not that uncommon in acting. 68.251.185.13 (talk) 07:25, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Assignment
This article was the subject of an educational assignment that ended on 2010. Further details are available here. |
I just wanted to post this saying that I am new to wikipedia and doing this for a school project. I am very open to help and critique, but please try not to erase new posts, instead could we try to work together to make the article the best it can be. [[Trod17 (talk) 03:09, 17 February 2010 (UTC)]]
- Per WP:BLP all additions must be accompanied by a reliable source. See the banner at the top of this page. Also, try to make sure the material is not cut-and-paste from any copyright sources. Don't worry about your edits being erased, it's all part of the WP:BRD process. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:12, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Don't cite other wikiprojects, or web-scraping ad-driven pages. We need to use sources from actual news outlets or from actual reliable newspapers. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:50, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Okay thank you for your help, but there is a typo in the latest added section about Tom directing the second "part" of Smallville Absolute Justice which was a 2 hour movie, but if looked at on the season 9 episode list is split as two episodes part 1 being "society" and part 2 being "legends" Tom only directed the second part. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trod17 (talk • contribs) 01:44, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Great go ahead and fix it if you can. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:48, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Edits to a class project
Plastikspork and others working on this article, I appreciate your interest in this article. Trod17, a student of mine, is trying to develop this article as part of a class work and your immediate removal/modification of the material he posted was not helpful to the learning process. I remind you of WP:BITE.
I understand that potentially libelous material about a living person must be immediately removed, and while I found several items in my student's work that were not cited to reliable sources, I found nothing potentially libelous that required immediate removal. While the theory of "eventualism" does not apply to BLPs, it was not necessary to completely demolish this article within 10 minutes of his posting edits. Do you actually know that he was "finished" before you started reverting what he did? I considered this extremely uncooperative, possibly motivated by other considerations, not necessarily in the spirit of cited BLP guidelines.
If Trod17 decides to continue working on this article, I would appreciate your cooperation, helpfulness and civility in the this education effort. In the spirit of improvement, an explanation of why another wikiarticle isn't a reliable source would be a better start, IMHO, than simply a sarcastic comment in the edit summary. A conversation on the talk page might also have been more effective than "Wow, what a load of unsourced material, reverting per BLP". BLP does not require a reversion to a work in progress, within six minutes of posting! Although there was a brief mention on the talk page, it appeared to me to be more confrontational than helpful. Helping the new editor add the proper kinds of citations would certainly have made this more of a learning process, and potentially a better article, than simply deleting/reverting the additions the new editor made. Although we went over these things in class, there were a lot of items we covered, and sourcing is a learned process.
The process of editing, re-editing, adding sources, testing sources, and feedback are essential, and even though this is a living person bio, certainly an hour or two, or even 10, would not have been an unreasonable expectation. I appreciate your cooperation in the future. Auntieruth55 (talk) 18:01, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, the editors of this article are communicating on the talk page, and the WP:BRD process appears to be working. I don't see any ownership issues, just a strict defense of the need for RS on a BLP. There is nothing wrong with reversion so long as it is accompanied by discussion, which appears to be happening. Thank you for your input and continued contributions to WP! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:53, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I just wanted to ask a quick question here. I have been looking all over the internet for credible information on Tom Welling and I know you mentioned before that youtube was not credible, but would it be good to link to a couple of Tom Welling's T.V. interviews such as Good Morning America and Regis and Kelly? Secondly just to let you know I have made contact with Welling's agent and he is going to provide Wikipedia fair use for a couple more photos to increase the article a bit more. Trod17 (talk) 21:10, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
- You can cite television interviews, see for example {{cite episode}}. It's best if there is some sort of transcript to go with the episode, or if there is a link to the video on an official website (e.g., not a user upload on YouTube, since those could be remixed). That's great that you are getting more pictures. By the way, if the agent uploads them to flickr under a completely free-license, they can be transfered over to WP for use as well. Otherwise, there is a procedure for verifying that it is indeed the owner who is releasing the photos. Sometimes this isn't possible if the owner is the photographer and the person uploading is the individual, or his/her agent. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:08, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Modeling Career
I have been all over the net searching for a credible source with information on Welling's modeling career. Does anyone have any credible sources dealing with the 3 modeling agencies listed in the article? Thanks Trod17 (talk) 19:51, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

(By Mike Z) I only saw a couple of grammatical errors and spelling errors, although the one could just be how the quote is. The quote is, "I called and get him on the phone and he said," and I think the get should be got but it could just be how it was quoted.
Second, I am not sure if this really is necessary but usually its better to split contractions like can't and wasn't to can not and was not so you might wanna consider revising that.
Overall I though you did a good job on describing his career, lots of great points. You might want to consider adding to his history a little more by maybe saying if he went to college or who his parents are. Maybe you could add some more to his current personal life like where he currently lives and etc as well.Mzwhiz21 (talk) 02:05, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Edit Help
A quick note. I have been trying to make this article the best it can be lately and I ran into a snap with the kryptonsite citation at the end of the bottom paragraph. I have been citing things this same way and I can't seem to see where my mistake is. I know many of you are more experienced at this than me. Thank you for your help and support of the article. Trod17 (talk) 03:40, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- I believe I fixed it. We should remove the ALL CAPS from the titles. I wish there was an automatic way to do this. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk)
Thank you very much Plastikspork. Trod17 (talk) 13:09, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey Tyler, this is Sara from our class. First, I wanted to say thank you for reviewing my article! I really needed some constructive feedback and yours really helped. Your article was great! I loved the tables in the bottom sections that told what movies, tv shows, etc. he was in and the years when they were published. It was interesting for me to see those because I didn't realize everything that he was in. Towards the beginning of the article, (I can't remember which section), you said that he was in the pilot. I think that is an episode maybe (I'm not really sure) but I believe that should be in quotes or something to show that. Also, I noticed you included Warner Bros. and that could have a blue link because it is most likely another article on wikipedia. There were some names throughout it that I could not identify (Paul Fisher) that you could put a few words about in your article. Also, when you're talking about all the awards he won, if there are any "big names" he ran against, you could include those to make it a little more interesting and to show what a good actor he was. One last thing, the Personal Life section is really short, you could either add more to that or maybe combine it with "early life" and make a larger section about his personal life outside of Hollywood. Other than that everything looks great! The writing was very well done and easy to understand! Saralo16 (talk) 02:19, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Hey Tyler, this is Ben from class. Just have to say that I enjoyed your article and it is very well written. I know that some of the pictures you may want to put up are copy written, like maybe Smallville or cheaper by the dozen pictures. Images in the career part would be nice, but I know you had issues with that. Also, that career field is rather large and may be able to be broken down into several sub sections such as a Smallville section and a Cheaper by the Dozen section. All of your graphs and charts were quite informative. Overall a good job. Great work man. Benro129 (talk) 20:19, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, such images were added, but subsequently removed. Due to WP:NFCC, we can only use images which have been released under a CC or PD license, unless there is a very strong reason for it. Typically, you can make an argument for a logo for a show in the show's article, but not on the individual actor pages. FYI, it's copyright not copywrite. Thanks for your feedback! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:37, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Hey Tyler, this is Kellie from class. I just read your article and I think it is very well written and organized. You did a great job of upholding neutrality, especially since you are writing a biography on someone still living. I think your charts are very helpful to organize your information. I think that you could expand the personal section a little if you have information, like maybe how he met his wife, or if they have children, things like that. I think that you have a very detailed description of his career and projects he has worked on, so if you could add a little more information to the beginning, I think it would really help to explain every aspect of his character. Overall, I think you did a great job! :) Santolinek (talk) 01:18, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Middle name
The source provided does say his middle name is Joseph. However, it also says he is registered to vote in Sarasota County, Florida. So I think that may not be the correct Tom Welling, since there is no mention of any Florida connection in the article. Thoughts? --‖ Ebyabe talk - Attract and Repel ‖ 08:09, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Merger proposal
I propose merging List of awards and nominations received by Tom Welling into this article. Welling has only received nominations/awards from two organizations, I don't think that's enough to justify a separate article. Thoughts? Rfl0216 (talk) 22:12, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
