Tomohiko Ito (footballer) → Tomohiko Itō (footballer) – in Japanese the name is spelled as "いとう" -> "itou", hence canonically it should be romanized as "Itō", and not as "Ito" (see "Article titles" section in Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Japan-related_articles) 5.172.255.170 (talk) 15:22, 27 February 2020 (UTC)—Relisting. - The vast majority of Japanese footballer article titles do not use macrons, including the more recent ones that will not have a presence in English language sources. I assumed this was deliberate and based on an old consensus, so is that not the case? —Xezbeth (talk) 12:10, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- If the majority of the Japanese footballer article titles do not use macrons then, in my opinion, that is incorrect and should be fixed, for virtually exactly the same reason as, e.g., the Álvaro Negredo is the canonical title instead of the Alvaro Negredo. This isn't just a case of stylistics - "Ito" and "Itō" are entirely different names. 5.172.255.35 (talk) 15:05, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
