Better sources

Are there better reliable, independent sources on this?

Out of 30 hits at Google Scholar, 28 were patents, 1 was the infamous "The Hunt for Zero Point" and 1 was a dead link at AAIA.

There seem to be some relevant articles from around 1970 in Journal of Automotive Engineering, but I don't have access to them except for the small snippets available via Google Books.
