The following line in the Instrumental Music section: This upcoming year, the unit plans to return to the Fiesta Bowl, a competition and parade held in Arizona. Should be changed to: In 2007, the unit competed in the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Fiesta Bowl National Band Championships and placed third overall with their show "Russian Nights".

Reassessing: still borderline Start, but around C class. It's off to a good start, but there are several issues. Firstly, it still needs far more references: things that lack clear references include "2001 California Distinguished School", "2001 California Excellence in Arts Schoo", "API RANKINGS" (sourced to NCES?), all of "Extracurricular programs", all of "Athletics", "Notable Alumni" (especially the ones without Wikipedia pages). The AP exam news in the lead is a bit of WP:Recentism; it could be moved down if the article had a History section. Also, try to clarify certain things. What are the API rankings? Add a link or line of clarification so a person from another country can figure out what it is. Good luck, --Jh12 (talk) 11:48, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Major Neutrality Issues

edit

This entire article needs to rewritten, the entire article read like a promotion for the school and is strongly badly slanted. The editors of the article either attend the school or have reason to promote the school. The article makes reference to specific students and refers to staff as "reigning" over a team or subject area. The article also includes extraneous, unverifiable information in brackets. The reference are extremely lacking compared to the text. There are many more problems with the article. This topic is a disaster, it should be taken down a rebuilt —Preceding unsigned comment added by Discover10 (talkcontribs) 07:19, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

And here, at the end of 2012, many of the same issues remain. Example: in the awards section there is a referenced bit about receiving ALL of the highest national awards... The reference does show that the school received the awards stated, but there is absolutely nothing that says they are either "the highest" or that they represent "all". That is just the tip. I will get to more later. This needs a serious rewrite. I think I will ask for a re-evaluation first, tho. Gtwfan52 (talk) 06:01, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Assessment: December 2012

I'm assessing this article following a request at WP:WPSCH/A#R. Overall, I believe the existing ratings remain correct, although I can still give some updated advise on further improvement:

  • Overall: A lot of good content, but needs to be expanded and less focused extracurricular activities - see WP:WPSCH/AG#S for ideas on missing sections; don't fall into common traps - see WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI. The main three obvious omissions are history, curriculum, and campus sections. Also, the referencing should use citation templates when possible, see WP:CITET.
  • Lead: Too short; should introduce and summarize the entire article per WP:LEAD. I would recommend expanding it as the article expands - one sold paragraph should be enough for now.
  • Awards: If an abbreviation for the name of the school is to be used it should be given in the lead, and should only be used at all if it is in common usage. Overall, this section looks messy and needs citations - it would probably be better summarized in prose.
  • API Scores: Should probably be merged with a curriculum section and put in prose. Beware of WP:RECENTISM - scores of ten years ago are as important as those of last year.
  • Extracurricular programs: Too much detail on too few programmes and needs proper inline citations - external links within the text are not appropriate. This section does seem rather promotional - it should stick to the facts, avoid peacock terms, and rely more on third-party sources. This is by chance the second article I have assessed today with a model United Nations.
  • Athletics: More prose, less lists, with information better summarised would be a good way to go here, with more focus on how athletics operates at the school generally and less on promoting achievements.
  • Notable alumni: Needs an introductory sentence with the meaning of the years given clarified - I would guess it refers to the year they graduated from the school (link or clarify graduation if used; graduation isn't done in schools much outside the US and so may cause confusion), but this should be made clear. The content should be trimmed - specifying the films an actor has appeared in for example is unnecessary (their biography will do that) and the current format of mixing careers and details is very confusing. Last but not least, this section should be fully referenced per WP:V and WP:BLP.
  • External links: Less is more here - just one to the official website would be sufficient - a link for individual extracurricular activities is excessive.
  • Pictures: A few would be nice, but please only upload those in the public domain or under a free license i.e. don't take images from random websites or written materials.
