Need material on the successful freeway protests
I propose adding material on the freeway protests of the late 1960s/early 1970s. This is the reason why the city is not divided by higher-volume traffic routes and one of the reasons the city is as "livable" as it is (the high qaulity of life we enjoy).Hu Gadarn 16:11, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Add away. It might be relevant to touch upon the 1997 Transportation Plan [1] and the 2002 Downtown Transportation Plan [2]. The Burrard Bridge fiasco can also be mentioned. Usgnus 12:06, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
I would suggest adding recent issues concerning Vancouver transportation from a non-biased stand-point. specifically the Gateway project, why it's a good idea/why it's not. ---Taryn Gilstead
Major streets
I'm not sure why this list of streets appears in this article. If you look at the articles themselves, they describe the history, geography and culture of the streets. Perhaps a new article should be created for "List of major streets in Vancouver." Thoughts? Sunray 07:22, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- If you look at the history, the list was added when the article was just a stub. I think it can be removed altogether, or at least shortened to contain only streets that actually have articles (my preference). — Usgnus 14:26, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- I commented out all redlink streets. -- Usgnus 04:18, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Bias
People in Vancouver are very fond of pointing out Vancouver's (relatively) well-developed public transportation system. It, and the lack of freeways, allow them to feel superior, principally to Americans. However, transportation in Vancouver is still dominated by the automobile. The fact that this article does not mention this is evidence of bias. Some statistics about daily ridership, public transport's percentage of total trips, etc, would be helpful to overcome that bias.
