Route Diagram Template
editSee WP:RDT. Should we begin to implement this ingenious iconic mapping system for Canadian canal systems? It allows for detailing of far more than just the locks. BeeTea 19:08, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- I have created a page User:Qui1che/Sandbox/Trent–Severn Waterway Route Diagram and begun a route map. All are welcome to contribute.--papageno (talk) 20:53, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Template:Trent-Severn Waterway map created and inserted into article. It focuses on essential details, as an exhaustive listing of features would become rather intimidating.Raellerby (talk) 17:02, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Wow! Looks splendid. Many thanks. --papageno (talk) 06:25, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

The map has an error. It shows Lock 35 as being between Balsam Lake and Kirkfield, but it's actually between Cameron Lake and Balsam Lake. Balsam Lake and Mitchell Lake are the highest on the system, and there is no lock between them. I have travelled that route many times. The elevations (which I assume are in feet above Lake Ontario, although this is not marked anywhere) seem all wonky. For one thing, they show the trip from Georgian Bay to Kirkfield to be downstream, when it should be upstream. Other anomalies are that the 60-ish foot lift of the Peterborough Lift Locks seems to be listed at the Scotts Mills lock and a 47-foot fall shown to be at the Couchiching lock should probably be the Big Chute Marine Railway. 198.91.146.14 (talk) 04:50, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Lead - commercial and pleasure boats
editI have changed the sentence in the lead from "formerly used for commercial purposes but now exclusively for pleasure boats" to "formerly used for industrial and transportation purposes and now for recreational and tourism purposes". The system is used for commmercial purposes today, just not the industrial or transportation ones common in earlier times. There is a cruise line that operates the boat the Kawartha Voyageur, houseboat rental firms such as Egan Houseboats, as well as many resorts and marinas. I think the previous text was meant to indicate something along these lines; I think the new text says it better. --papageno (talk) 18:27, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
A map would be useful
editNot sure where these places are exactly. --AW (talk) 16:21, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- When I complete my trace of the Official Ontario Road Map, it will be possible to make a map with a red line indicating the route of the waterway. This may be a few months down the road yet. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 22:58, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have a google maps route map of the trent-severn. Can we post embedded google maps? I also have a few waterway maps with links to the locks on the system. peterborough to trenton port severn to peterborough Happypumpkin (talk) 06:16, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- I have started (but, admittedly, not recently worked on) a route map of the system in my sandbox. I have gotten part way with the short stretch from the Bay of Quinte to Campbellford. Any help would be appreciated. --papageno (talk) 23:54, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
- We can take the KML of that google map link and use that through {{Attached KML}}, which is the new system the highways folk have come up with to overcome the problems with single-point coordinates. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 00:07, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
