Deaths at Treowen in 1977

edit

The third External Source for Ivor Herbert, 1st Baron Treowen, which doesn't work, is intended to support a claim of 17 deaths at Treowen in 1977. That sounds a very high number! Was it a fire? I can't find it on Google. Does anyone have a source/further details? KJP1 (talk) 08:10, 24 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

It was vandalism, I think - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ivor_Herbert,_1st_Baron_Treowen&diff=next&oldid=515239246 I'll remove it. Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:05, 24 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Images

Ghmyrtle, Martinevans123, I swear the three of us are the only ones that are going to argue over this. Where's Verbcatcher when you need a fourth for bridge! I agree with Martin that both are strong images, but I agree more with Ghmyrtle that they are too similar, such that having both is superfluous. If we are to have a second, there are two others on Commons which we could use. One has a tree in the centre which is not helpful but this is rather good.

That said, I think we could manage with one until we have more text. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 20:18, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

No worries. I know it has people, but that previous lead image looked a better one to me! Martinevans123 (talk) 20:23, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I can see what you mean - it is a better image, it just has that irritating extraneous detail. Anyway, no big deal. KJP1 (talk) 20:34, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Trust Trolls are people too, you know?! Martinevans123 (talk) 20:38, 30 August 2017 (UTC) Reply

Where does, "a very magnificent building" come from? Because... well, "magnificent" isn't a word I'd apply to the place. The roof in particular gives it an oddly uneven appearance. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:46, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Andy Dingley, Hi Andy, good to see it's not just Ghmyrtle, Martin and I who've ever even heard of this place! The "magnificent building" comes from the eminent Peter Smith's seminal tome, Houses of the Welsh Countryside, and is sourced in the body of the article at the end of the Architecture and description section. And it is magnificent! It was close to my favourite house in Monmouthshire, until I saw Llanvihangel Court. But you're right about the roof, as Newman noted. Best regards. I have a project on at Treowen, over the next couple of months. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:09, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Wow. What's that all about Andy? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:10, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's a wonderful setting. Enjoy! KJP1 (talk) 21:12, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Secret! But it's vaguely theatrical. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:29, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ah-ha. Already guessed. You'll be showing us your equestrian skills next! Martinevans123 (talk) 21:34, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Have you seen the price of horses? Even the dead ones! Andy Dingley (talk) 22:04, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well yes, actually, I have. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:08, 30 August 2017 (UTC) Reply

A very parochial question

edit

Simon Jenkins, in his Wales: Churches, Houses Castles, says Treowen is found "near the village of Jingle Street". I've never heard of Jingle Street, although Google Earth does show it as a, minor, road that runs North across the A40 between Dingestow and Wonastow. Jingle Street's a rather odd name, and I'm pretty sure it's not a village. Anyone know anything about it? KJP1 (talk) 06:44, 12 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Is this the thing it's trying to link to? https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/43380?term=Treowen — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.174.1.196 (talk) 10:49, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for picking up the broken link. I’ve repaired it. It’s not actually the one you link to above, which describes a barn at Wonastow Court. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 13:08, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
